US Army now letting muslim soldiers wear beards and turbans

Joe Biden - "Time to put Trump in the bullseye."
They allow medical exemptions for beards, now they allow religious ones. This is what always happens when you make exceptions to the rules. Everybody says they're special.

april 1 2016 In a decision by the U.S. Army Thursday, Capt. Simratpal Singh, a decorated Sikh-American officer and combat veteran, has received a long-term religious accommodation to serve with long hair, a beard, and turban in accordance with his Sikh faith.

In March, a U.S. district judge issues a temporary restraining order against additional non-standard, discriminatory testing. According to The Sikh Coalition, which is representing Singh with The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery, Singh is the first Sikh American to receive religious accommodation while already actively serving in the U.S. Army.

Before 1974, Sikh Americans were allowed to serve in the U.S. military with their articles of faith intact. Since 1981, stricter grooming regulations have required requests for religious accommodation on a case-by-case basis. Until now, only three had been granted. Meanwhile, about 50,000 U.S. soldiers have permanent beard exemptions for medical reasons, according to Singh's team.

God you are supremely dense, Sikhs are not Muslims!! In fact they have an unrivalled fighting tradition, indeed 20% of the Indian military are Sikhs.

Sikh and Muslim are not the same word or the same religion. Come on, dude, enhance your calm and read the article.

I didn't think racist conservatives knew the difference between Muslims and other non-Christian religions...behold. :palm:

Remember this?

We had a very famous case over here many years ago where Sikhs were given an exemption regarding crash helmets. The funny thing is though I've never ever seen anybody just wearing a turban riding a motorbike!!

The board notes your feeble attempt to change the subject. Now address the issue. Should we give religious exemptions to everyone who demands one? Assuming Islam is a religion. I don't think it is. It's a political movement that calls itself a religion to avoid criticism. THINK, america-hater.

You clearly know little about Sikhs or you wouldn't say something so ignorant. Maybe if you read this you might become more aware?

According to the title of this thread, which YOU created, Sikhs and Muslims ARE the same.

Haven't there been numerous tragedies of mistaken identity involving racist conservatives and minorities?

Islam is obviously a religion. People who say otherwise are idiots who just claim that because they find it a convenient way of shielding their bigotry.

It's possible that hatred of brown people is overlapping with hatred of Muslims which is overlapping with hatred of non-Christians.

Because muzzlers say so??? I say BS. Like zionism, islam is a political movement that calls itself a religion to deflect criticism.

What is a "muzzler"?

And which Muslim soldiers has the US Army let wear beards and turbans?

:dunno:

Islam and Sikhism

Islam is an Abrahamic religion founded in Arabian peninsula, while Sikhism is a Dharmic religion founded in South Asia. Islam means "submission" (to Allah), and also carries meanings of peace and safety. The word Sikh is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning 'disciple', or one who learns.

Both religions are strictly monotheistic, although, unlike the monotheism of Islam, Sikhs believe that the 'One' creator permeates the creation. Islam believes that Muhammad was the last prophet, to whom Quran was revealed by God in 7th century CE, and it restricts its primary source of teachings to the Quran and the Hadiths. Sikhism was founded in 15th century CE by Guru Nanak and Guru Granth Sahib is the scripture followed by Sikhs as "The Living Guru".

In Islam, the legal system based on the Quran and the Sunnah is known as Sharia; there is no such legal system mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib. Islam does not allow apostasy. Sikhism allows freedom of conscience and apostasy. Daily prayers are one of the pillars of Islam and mandatory for Muslims. Baptized Sikhs read the five banis (prayers) as part of their daily routine, Nitnem. Islam requires annual zakah (alms giving) by Muslims, while Sikhism encourages alms giving but does not compel it. Selfless service (Sewa) and sharing with others (Vand Chhako) are fundamental to Sikhism. Pilgrimage (to Mecca) is a crucial part of Islam, while Sikhism denounces pilgrimages, circumcision and rituals.
