Can anyone explain how he could deliver?

The American electorate is shot through with voters who don’t know how the political process works.

That ignorance opens them to all manner of ill-conceived, unconstitutional, or otherwise dead on arrival proposals masquerading as serious policy ideas.

The marriage of illogical ideas and an angry electorate leads us to where we are now: a major party candidate — in this case the one most likely to win — completely absent of reasonable ideas and tapping visceral public ignorance.

But in a nod to hyper-cynicism, his strategy is to keep pushing voter buttons on items he knows will never happen. He’s able to do it because he knows his voters don’t know how the system works.

There are so many examples of Trump’s policy positions that reveal this ignorance that it’s hard to pick just one.

It amazes me to see the obsession about Trump. I suppose it is normal during an election cycle to hone onto one or two candidates, but the publicity Trump gets by merely yelling absurdities is beyond anything we have seen in a while.
Can anyone explain how he could deliver?
Frankly, no. Not unless he turns our constitution and processes completely upside down. I pity those who delude themselves into thinking he can actually deliver, along with all the rest of us who vote for the same old 2 party nonsense, where promises are being made, DC is becoming more powerful and self absorbed by the cycle. It is not just Trump who makes a fool of us. Many have done so before him.
But here we are, insulting each other, making fun of each other. We debate and discuss, we warn about him or her. Ask yourselves if it really matters.
Trump is just a poster child for a disgruntled populace. He is a clown and a con artist, like most of them are. He just is a bit more obvious than some.
Yes, he puts into words what many are thinking. Will he win the nomination, or even the election? Time will tell.
So again, can he deliver on his promises? No, he can't and he won't. He is just a very skilled snake oil salesman and a bit louder than the rest.

What do you think his supporters will do when he fails to deliver on his promises?

Will they turn on him, or as I think more likely, blame someone else?

Trump relies on the ignorance of the mechanics of government more than any politician I have ever seen.
He know exactly how stupid his constituency is and he plays to that stupidity with expert precision.
He knows none of them will ever ask how he intends to get around governmental checks and balances and the limiting power of the constitution to carry out his promised xenophobic, bullying and racist agenda.
He often sounds like he is running for "Emperor of the USA".
I think many of his low information followers must believe he is.
Lol

What did Obamas supporters do when he failed to deliver?

Do you think his supporters will turn on him anymore than Obamas supporters did?

I do. Trump/Obama are comparable in some ways but not others; and same ditto with their supporters. There are lots of people who support Trump reluctantly, because the alternatives are Hillary or the establishment. I'm one of them lol. In contrast, many Obama supporters will support Obama just because he's the first black president. If Obama ran for a third term, does anyone think he would get less than 85% of the black vote? I can tell you Hillary would love to get those numbers.

I think most people realize Trump blows a lot of smoke and there may never actually be a wall and etc. But, failing the wall [using that as an example] still leaves a lot of room for improvement in immigration policy. Same with trade policy and etc.

If Trump gets elected and turns liberal on his supporters---they will drop him like a hot potato.

:dunno: If you really wanted to know, you could start a thread and ask some Obama supporters.

Do you think his supporters will turn on him anymore than Obamas supporters did?

I think his supporters are frightened, and will cling to him in desperation as their 'Great White Hope' no matter what.

Many of them will probably be dead by the end of his second term, otherwise he might tell them to make him president-for-life, and they'd try to amend the constitution. :palm:

You really think so?

You can disagree w/ Obama's policies - but his campaign was largely dominated by talk of universal healthcare & the stimulus. He essentially came through on both.

Trump talks about all of this foreign "deal-making" he's going to do, as well as things like Mexico paying for a wall. I don't think it matters what happens in his admin; by the end, he will claim that he did those things.

He can’t rip up existing trade agreements and negotiate new ones, can he?

Do you believe he can magically make immigration stop by executive order?

Illegal immigrants are a hot issue for scared people.

Maybe you're scared a Mexican or Muslim might empty bedpans faster than you do and take your job. They probably wouldn't spend their shift posting on JPP, so maybe they deserve to get the job.

You seem to think that he can just wave his scepter and make anime real.

He’s right about one thing - people like you don’t know how our constitutional system of government was designed to work, lol.

You asked a question, and the comparison is perfectly fine. What do disappointed voters do? Some get upset, realizing they have been duped. Others make up excuses and spin the outcome until it pleases them. We have seen that in the past, we see it now, we will see it in the future.

Are there any Obama supporters in this thread? :dunno:

Legion Troll gives him the most publicity and attention on this forum, doesn't he?

Are you sure?

Trump performed the best in places where middle-aged whites are dying the fastest.

That wasn't a fluke.

The relationship between white mortality and Trump support is real, as the results from Super Tuesday confirmed.

Here are scatter charts to visualize this connection in nine of the 11 Super Tuesday states. Each circle represents a county. The horizontal position of a circle represents the white death rate in that county for people ages 40 to 64. Counties toward the right have higher rates of white mortality.

The vertical position of the circle represents the percent of votes that went to Donald Trump on Tuesday in that county. The higher the circle, the more votes for Trump. The size of the circles represents the size of the population.

The red line on each plot summarizes the relationship between white deaths and Trump support. In every state except Massachusetts, the counties with high rates of white mortality were the same counties that turned out to vote for Trump.

Something has gone terribly wrong with their lives. In a study last year, economists Anne Case and Angus Deaton pointed out that mortality rates for this group have actually been increasing since the '90s.

That fact becomes more alarming when you look at the context. Over the past decade, Hispanic people have been dying at a slower rate; black people have been dying at a slower rate; white people in other countries have been dying at a slower rate.
