Louis CK nails it: "We are being Germany in the 30s"

Everything he says sums up my view on this perfectly - right down to usually voting Democrat, but wanting a Republican to win this year just for some balance:

"Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s. Do you think they saw the shit coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all."

That makes nice comedy and Lord knows Trump doesn't need any help with that but it's not a valid historical comparison. Trump is not leading a coherent political movement. Trump has no defined political ideology or agenda. Trump has not created a political party committed to that ideology or agenda. Trump has no specific political message.

Trump is a political opportunist who has tapped into a mood of distrust and anger, as Hitler did, and that's essentially where the comparison begins and ends. Trump is no Hitler. He's a bombastic plutocrat.

Calling Trump Hitler is lazy. Basically it's like Godwinning a thread. The only thing more worn out is calling someone a racist.

The real reason Trump is unfit for the job is because he has zero experience in government positions. He's also very crass and shows a complete lack of understanding of how to be respectful.

I wish democrats would nominate Sanders. At least I can trust him on what he says. Hillary is a fucking liar.

ha...you must be in that 49% that don't pay taxes....

I think people are missing the point. It's the xenophobia & demagoguery - playing to fear & hatred. I don't expect Trump to commit genocide if elected (but who knows).

There are obviously differences between the 2 men and their movements (and I would disagree w/ you there; Trump is leading an anti-establishment movement, for sure). But what is making them popular & the unquestioning adulation of their followers is eerily similar.

Louis CK & me aren't the only ones noticing that, either.

Appeal to authority. So this means you are right?

No - but it says something that me, Glenn Beck, Louis CK and a host of others from all areas of the political spectrum are saying the same thing.

I don't think it's disputable, really. The similarities in the demagoguery and xenophobia are certainly there. They're both masters at manipulating fear.

When Beck says Trump is like Hitler we should probably listen...

That's just populism. It's also political principle. Read Machiavelli. Do you think Trump and Hitler are the only politicians that have done that?

I'm sorry, it's a lame analogy. Trump isn't scape goating anyone. Trump isn't a fascist. Trump isn't a militarist. Trump isn't preaching nationalism as religion.

I'm sorry but the facts simply aren't on your side. I'm disgusted with Trumps behavior and have no desire to see him sit in the white house but the comparisons to Hitler are lame and inaccurate. Trump isn't even remotely comparable to Hitler except in a few small common ways that many politicians share in common.

When Trump wins, Louis CK better watch his ass.

'He already said he would expand libel laws to sue anyone who “writes a negative hit piece” about him. He says “I would open up the libel laws so we can sue them and win lots of money. Not like now. These guys are totally protected.” He said that. He has promised to decimate the first amendment.'

Don't you think the political climate would be a little more civil if candidates were held more accountable for telling lies about other candidates?
