Yes you can own a car without medical coverage for yourself. The required coverage is for if you injure someone else.
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) required that ERs treat the uninsured only AFTER an evaluation where an emergency medical condition is shown to exist.
Walk into an ER with a heart attack without insurance and you would be treated.
Walk in with terminal lung cancer without insurance and you would be sent home with nothing more than an apology.

Are you uninformed or lying about the fact that hospitals and ERs routinely turned away HIV and AIDS patients at one time, even if the people were able to pay, because they were so afraid?
