Kasich trounced everyone in that debate

Every time he spoke, my immediate reaction was along the lines of "finally, an adult is talking."

I don't get it, for a second. Why isn't this guy way ahead in the polls? He'd be a shoe-in to win this election in November. I know that GOPers hate the fact that he is every Democrat's favorite Republican, but his conservative credentials are pretty impeccable. His track record as governor & in congress speaks for itself - no one else on that stage comes close.

What a waste of an outstanding candidate. I guess primary voters would rather "stick it" to the establishment, or whatever their reasoning is. Because it's not finding a good President.
 
Last night was by far his best debate. So he didn't perform his best early on when trying to differentiate yourself from a group of 15 candidates can be difficult and many voters make up their mind. There were also other candidates with a similar story "I took over a state that was X number of dollars in debt and now we have a surplus and Y number of new jobs". And in a time with so many calling for "outsiders" his 'I was in Congress for 20 years' story doesn't sell the best.

He has made it to the remaining four candidates which is impressive. The numbers to watch in the Michigan primary will be what percentage of those voters who decided last minute voted for Kasich. That will tell you how "well" his debate performance was perceived.

Yup. He should have been raising his profile the last 5-6 years. He blew his chances years ago. How far back was Trump injecting himself into politics ?
A history of accomplishment makes a difference.
 
A mature, reasoned approach may not resonate with the current GOP base; they prefer a brash, abrasive reality TV star who says the kind of things they want to hear.

They genuinely seem to think they've been disenfranchised by minorities and immigrants, and instead of taking personal responsibility for their own lack of competitive skills in the workforce and the global marketplace, they gobble down Trumps' demagoguery.

I think Kasich can argue he has accomplishments but to your point he should have been out making himself known nationally much prior to this.

He may have accomplishments but not because he understood planning and preparition.
Most pols leave that to others. And for a reason. Romney is a smart guy but he left the thinking to others and look what happened.

If it wasn't for his views on illegals getting amnesty and a road to citizenship after ignoring US entry laws, he could have been a contender....

I liked him the most but I didn't like this:

BAIER: Governor Kasich, would you put ground troops in Libya?

KASICH: Well, first of all, just to be clear, not only did I serve for 18 years on the Defense Committee, more than anybody on this stage, but, secondly, I was called into the Pentagon after 9/11 to help Secretary Rumsfeld with some of his difficulties.

I will say, look, let me tell you what happened with Libya. And I pointed out in the last debate — Hillary Clinton worked aggressively to depose Moammar Gadhafi. We had no business doing it. He was working with us. He was cooperating with us. He denuclearized. And now they pushed him out, and now we have a fertile ground for ISIS.

Fortunately in Libya, there’s only a few cities on the coast, because most of Libya is a desert. The fact of the matter is, we absolutely have to be — and not just with special forces. I mean, that’s not going to work. Come on. You’ve got to go back to the invasion when we pushed Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. We have to be there on the ground in significant numbers. We do have to include our Muslim Arab friends to work with us on that. And we have to be in the air.

And we — it should be a broad coalition, made up of the kinds of people that were involved when we defeated Saddam. Now, you’ve got to be on the ground and in the air both in Syria and Iraq. And at some point, we will have to deal with Libya. I am very concerned about ISIS getting their hands on the oilfields in Libya and being able to fund their operations. The fact is cool, calm, deliberate, effective, take care of the job, and then come home. That’s what we need to do with our military foreign policy.(APPLAUSE)

He's a Republican, there are plenty of things I'm sure you don't like about him (politically speaking). The issue for you is the Democratic candidate is a hawk.

You're right that I wouldn't vote for Kasich against a Dem but I do appreciate that he acts like an adult and discusses issues in the debates. And if he became president I wouldn't lose my marbles over it.
