Why limit it at all....done right now could bring down the payroll tax rate for everyone if there was no cut off.....
That has zero chance of passing

Simple math.....you really outta get your GED so you participate intelligently.....
Raise the taxable amount to $300,000
39k people die each year in car crashes. that's 13 9/11's. puts things in perspective.
i dont care about a random 5 people getting killed here and there. big deal.
for me to start caring terrorists are really going to have to kick it up a notch
This surprises me.
If people are in it for profit, good. They'll do a better job, unless they're just taking the money - and that's something that can be regulated at far less cost than the current SS admin.
The bottom line is this: SS is not built to survive long-term. Even the most ardent privatization opponents concede that by 2037, we'd need to make a 25% cut in payouts. Can you imagine that year for seniors, and what kind out outcry there will be?
There was a study done that says Boomers will see life spans into the 80's, but lifespan will decrease with each new generation. It will just get to be harder & harder for SS to pay seniors any kind of living wage. The only solution when it's a gov't program is to keep finding ways to raise taxes. It's not sustainable.
You also have to factor in things like life spans getting longer, and the cost of living outpacing income.

Pollution, food additives, processed foods, sugar.I'd be curious what the basis for a study like that is.
We'll beat cancer. They're already very close to being able to replace sick or dying organs. Medical advancement is exponential in nature.
I've read more legit arguments that average lifespan could easily surpass 100 in the next generation than lifespan decreasing.
Not discounting the study that you're referring to, but it flies in the face of logic based on what I've read on the topic.
It's incredibly overblown. I'm not saying that we don't need to protect ourselves and that there isn't any threat, but listening to some of these voters, you would think we were getting attacked every other day.
Like I said in the OP - we scare easy.

The study said the Greatest Generation was the last generation to eat "real" food, and labored to match their calorie intake.
Ill see if I can find the study.
Really? How's so?
I see this as a long, long overdue reckoning of the corporate-owned and managed 2 party oligopoly, where the vast middle who has been fucked over and taken advantage of is rising up.
The reason for the cap on this end is to enable the cap on the other. So are we to leave the outgoing cap ? Think that will go over ?
Lift the maximum on taxable income entirely.

Baby boomers can't die soon enough for me
