Leaningright: Parent responses

lr, since you are a teacher and a Christian thought you would appreciate this. My wife directs a Christian pre-school in the Bay Area. All the parents had a chance to send in an evaluation of the school. A mother, who put her name on it, sent this in:

"Hate all the biblical references and God nonsense, but love the school otherwise. Wish it was more focused on good moral principles and learning about all cultures and religions and preaching tolerance vs. biblical banter."

I mean I guess she gets props for honesty but 1) she says this after willing and knowingly sending her child to a Christian school and 2) how many cultures do kids usually learn about from the age of 2 - 4? And tolerance? WTH is that in reference to?

My wife says she's a nice lady. Still, just wow.

They ask her to evaluate the school and she did, lol I teach my grandchildren about different cultures and they were/are young, we take them to museums and all kinds of crazy things. ;)

We take my nieces and nephews to all kinds of places. No question it's good for them. But when you sign your two, three and four year old up for a Christian school are you really expecting your child to learn about judism and Islam?

I mean when the kids are not napping, going to the bathroom or playing they are learning how to count and hopefully their ABC's. Not a whole lot of time to become a teacher of world religions.

And the mention of tolerance. Does this woman think they're teaching hate now? Why say she thinks it's such a good school but make that claim? Weird.

Seems strange to me, you should reach out and see if some specific instance or instances caused this reaction.

This is the second child this woman has sent to their school. There's nothing political about this so I probably should have posted it in off topic but talk about a strange response.

No, I was being facetious, somewhat, the woman is being absurd in not expecting the faith of the school to be taught, but then, again, they did ask her opinion, lol, but there are many children exposed to different cultures between the ages of 2-4 which was #2 on in your comment section.

My son attended a Christian Pre-School for a while and a Jewish one for a while. I never would have to thought to complain about then teaching about God.

My daughters attend(ed) a state funded program which was actually better.

You got this one right for sure cawacko. Just wow. What else would you expect sending your child to a "Christian" school? Thanks for sharing. Don't tell anyone but I even teach some Christian morals when the occasion arises in the public school where I teach. Last week a kid asked me about my views of sex before marriage so I told her and told her why I held such views. Sparked about a three minute discussion before we moved on to solving quadratics by completing the square.
