Well, it didn’t.
The Huffington Post reported today Vice President Joe Biden almost lost his home during his son Beau’s illness
In an interview with CNN, Biden this week revealed just how deep bond runs. The veep told CNN that Obama offered him money during Beau’s illness.
Biden told the president that, to make sure he could take care of Beau’s family, he and wife Jill might have to sell their house. But Obama wouldn’t stand for that.
“He got up and he said, ‘Don’t sell that house. Promise me you won’t sell the house,'” Biden said. “He said, ‘I’ll give you the money. Whatever you need, I’ll give you the money. Don’t, Joe — promise me. Promise me.’
Beau died about 5 months after leaving office as Attorney General of Delaware, so, he would have had health insurance through his job as a public employee until a few months before his death. (and would have had a salary of about $140k until he left office.) His wife was also employed at a private high school and would also likely have had good health insurance. (and another salary in the family.)

Well, I think it should be a right for every American. In a country as wealthy as ours, for us to have people who are going bankrupt because they can’t pay their medical bills — for my mother to die of cancer at the age of 53 and have to spend the last months of her life in the hospital room arguing with insurance companies because they’re saying that this may be a pre-existing condition and they don’t have to pay her treatment, there’s something fundamentally wrong about that.
