Please explain how this is double jeopardy? They have not been retried for the same offense. They were improperly sentenced. If you committed a murder and were convicted of it and the judge sentenced you to two years imprisonment but the State minimum sentence life then your sentence can and probably would be changed to the correct sentence. Do you even know what double jeopardy is?

Who is appeasing them? They're freezing them out. If they've broken laws they'll be arrested when they surrender and given a fair trial. How is that appeasement?

The conviction was for arson to federal land and the 5 year sentence is mandatory. Once convicted the judge had no legal choice. But on his last day on the bench he broke the rules.
They had cake in the courtroom after the sentencing.

Since when did Republicans think legislating from the bench was okay?

The presiding Judge was REQUIRED to hand down the MANDATORY sentence for the crime the Hammond's were found guilty of.

He failed to do his sworn duty so anther judge stepped in.
