CBS college basketball analyst and radio host Doug Gottlieb tried to give his followers some lessons in gun rights and firearm “safety” last night. Gottlieb also tried to offer a lecture about constitutional rights that went so bad he deleted it. "Not sure how many people understand, our "right to bear arms" is not in our constitution - It is an AMENDMENT to the document"

HAHAHA. Are you saying amendments are NOT part of the constitution??? Talk about dumb. Even this gottlieb dood knows he made a huge blunder - that's why he deleted his tweet.
 
Actually he's kinda-sorta right in an almost got it but didn't mean to, way.

The body of the Constitution is completely silent regarding the private citizens' possession and use of his personal arms.

That profound silence is the right to keep and bear arms.

The right to arms does not exist because of what the 2nd Amendment says (or any particular interpretation of it) . . . The right is possessed by the people because "We the People" never surrendered any power to government that allows it to have any interest whatsoever in the personal arms of the private citizen.

All the 2nd Amendment "does" is redundantly forbid the federal government to exercise powers it was never granted.

uh, Rune.....when you amend something you are reshaping the original and the entire reshaped original is the "thing".....the amended Constitution is still THE CONSTITUTION.........

2. The first 10 ammendents (The Bill of Rights) is known as the Bill of Rights.

When people today talked about the U.S.Constitution they are referring to all the amendments that exist. If Gotleib had said the "original" Constitution or the Constitution signed in 1787 that would be one thing but he didn't and that's why he took down his tweet because he knew he f'd up.

He was correct but there is no arguing with you guys.

When people say we have a constitutional right to free speech are they wrong because it wasn't in the original constitution?

What he said was that guns were not mentioned in the Constitution. He is correct, they are not.
They are mentioned in the Bill of Rights, a distinct seperate document since included in the Constitution as ammendments.

I'm not sure what the sports analyst is trying to imply. Is he trying to say that since it's an amendment that it's not legitimate or something? If he is questioning the validity of the 2nd amendment then wouldnt that same questioning go to the rest of the amendments including our freedom of speech?

^This is your brain on dumb and ignorant. The Constitution could not be ratified, which required thirteen states, until the Bill of Rights was debated and included as part of the document. Moron.

I think the idiot was trying to say amendments are like laws passed by congress and thus not as important as the words in the original constitution. Absolutely no legal scholar would go along with that. Amendments are unquestionably part of the constitution. Times change and the constitution should change with them. That's why the founding fathers included the amending process in the constitution when they wrote it.
