Driver firing randomly on U.S. highway kills two

Imagine if the tactic to kill with cars would become more used, the reason it was "born" doesn't change the reality of the number of deaths. They are just as dead. The reason one brings up the cars is because of the comparative numbers. The left uses the fear factor to attempt to pass laws that will not make us safer, but do curb liberty.

Oh it was an accident! Well that makes it all better then. Also 2/3 of those gun deaths are suicides. So you should be in favor of that.

That's right, pretend that intent doesn't matter.

If one wanted to make an apples to apples comparison one would bring up other weapons, not cars. Bringing up cars is just a diversion.

I'll remember that next time I'm drinking and driving. "Don't worry ma'am, it was an accident I killed your 8 year old daughter"

"Oh well that's ok have a nice day sir!".

You also ignored the whole "most gun deaths are suicides, which you should support".

Incorrect. One is comparing deaths. There are less cars in the US than guns yet there are more deaths related to cars than there are to the more prevalent guns. Even with that they are still rare enough that almost nobody is afraid of their car. If the left decided to promote the fear related to death when speaking of vehicles what kind of ineffective laws might we have today?

What people bring this up for is to further the discussion about the fear angle that is being used to pass laws that curb freedom and do not make us any safer. The most recent spectacle on the news had two people using illegally obtained guns to break laws but the answer is still more laws to make them more illegal?

We have a right to arms. Written in more modern language the 2nd Amendment is stated thusly: Because the government has a militia that can take your rights, The People have a right to own and keep arms. The discussion is whether your right should be curbed because some people use guns illegally and we can use the current spectacular news story to make people fear. Nobody ever suggests that illegally using a car (including reckless driving, driving while drunk, etc.) means that everybody's car should be taken yet more people die form the illegal and irresponsible car owner than from guns.

At least you seem to agree that driving while drunk is criminal behaviour. Most drunken people are under the mistaken impression that they're perfectly able to drive safely, because their judgment has been impaired to that degree.

Why do you think I would support suicide, aka violence against self?

My argument isn't about the right to bear arms, it's about how to lessen gun violence. Do you have any suggestions?

It's my body, and subsequently my choice is it not?

So you DON'T support a right to a person's self agency and life. Got it. I mean, I'm not surprised or anything, I just wanted you to say it publicly.

I don't know what you're trying to prove. There's no law against suicide and I can't stop anyone from killing themselves but don't have to like it. Exactly what is your point?

Your position is every man for himself. Got it.

No, you don't get it. I am for allowing us to defend ourselves. You are for passing laws that only victims follow, criminals are in favor of them. You're helping them ensure their victims don't fight back. Shooters then keep running to gun free zones to make even more sure you can maximize the carnage. Well done, your kill counts are impressive

"Criminals are the only ones with guns", what planet are you living on?

OK, let's go to the shootings. Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Columbine, Aurora, the Washington Navy Yard, Oregon, San Bernadino. Pick whichever one you want. Who was armed and shooting back? Go...

Actually, to be less facetious, though conversion to Buddhism would make a difference, I would suggest studying our actions during the times where gun violence was less of a problem. We used to teach gun safety in schools rather than gun fear. Kids did play "cops and robbers" and other games... Why was there less of an issue back then?

What a can of worms you have just opened..."back then"... We can't possibly go back to a time when the Nuclear family was the standard and a desirable model...when certain value based education wasn't driven from school curriculum as fervently as a fox from a hen house...when the cops were the good guys and the robbers were the bad ones...when women in the work force weren't nearly as well paid as men...when racism was more open and prevalent... It seems every time we bring up "back then" we hear about all of the bad stuff that existed with the good. So we hear "we don't want to go back" or words to that effect. We can't possibly even take the good things from that era and leave or advance from the bad. That would be too logical, captain...er.. ah....Damo.

Only in your mind do I think people shouldn't defend themselves. My position is that shooting is the last resort, not the first.
