If the facts are true it sounds like they have grounds for a civil suit---which is probably why the city gave the family several million. Even manslaughter requires wanton disregard for life but the officer was more like careless.

It just isn't there.

careless? the police are trained to follow all of their policies. in fact, I believe that following policy is a higher priority than following the laws concerning the rights of citizens, which is why qualified immunity was invented. would it then be reasonable to believe that this officer simply forgot his policy of fastening a prisoner in his van?

Absolutely believable. The problem is failing to secure a prisoner isn't something that is going to lead to a fatality except in weird instances. He could probably fail to secure a prisoner every other day for his 30 year career and never get anyone killed.

Had he failed to secure his weapon and killed someone, then, you might get a manslaughter charge. In terms of degree of negligence it's kind of weak, in other words.

Why is it so important to bring a criminal charge anyway?

I thought they beat and killed him on purpose? That was the media narrative.

Anyway, the rough ride, was likely an attempt to humble Grey who was a known thug/trouble maker.

And since liberals have ruined the courts/justice system, police are forced to use a little humbling/street justice to make people learn respect.

If our system wasn't plagued by slap on the wrist sentencing, and other failed measures, he'd probably still be alive.

I'm a white dude and I had some punk *ss cop in SF kick my *ss and I didn't anything. Fvcker put his knee in the back of my head and rubbed my face in the ground. Talking to one of the guys in the ambulance who picked me up he said I was the third person they've picked up that this cop had beaten up. This dude was noting but a thug with a badge.

It seems a fair number of people on this board have a mentality of cops can do either no right or no wrong. Well count me as one who believes most cops do good work at a hard job but there are some very bad ones out there and I have no sympathy for them when they are busted for their actions.
