Black Friday breaks record with 185K gun background checks

More Americans had their backgrounds checked purchasing guns on Black Friday than any day on record, according to data released by the FBI this week.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System processed 185,345 requests on Nov. 27, one of the largest retail sales days in the country.

"This was an approximate 5% increase over the 175,754 received on Black Friday 2014," wrote Stephen Fischer, the FBI's chief of multimedia productions. "The previous high for receipts were the 177,170 received on 12/21/2012."

Previous spikes for background checks, conducted before a gun buyer can obtain a firearm, occurred after prominent mass shootings, like in December 2012 in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Other Black Friday shopping days in 2014, 2013 and 2012 occupied the FBI's "top 10" list of the most background checks processed in a 24-hour period.
Since 1998, FBI data shows that the bureau has processed requests for more than 220 million firearm purchases.

Licensed sellers deny sales to failed background checks based on a variety of factors including criminal backgrounds, domestic violence convictions or restraining orders.

You are assuming just because someone is on a government no-fly list that was never convicted or even had a trial to prove innocent or guilt that their rights should be denied??? You must really trust the government to not ever make a mistake.

And if they are terrorists, why are they walking around free?

Who does background checks?

I use the many loopholes like getting myself on the no fly list and traveling from gun show to gun show

And 16 WNEP reports that Scranton, Pennsylvania, witnessed “long lines for concealed-carry permits” the day after the attack. Lackawanna County Sheriff’s Deputy Earl Van Wert said he knew crowds were going to pack the sheriff’s office for permits once news of the San Bernardino shooting broke: “[Citizens] are looking to make themselves feel more secure both at home and when they’re on the streets.”


Breitbart New previously reported that gun sales and concealed carry surged following the November 13 Paris attacks. Gun stores in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and other states reported skyrocketing sales–and many of the customers pouring into stores were first time gun buyers. Some counties around the country reported concealed applications up more than 100 percent.


This surge in sales and concealed applications comes less than a week after Black Friday background checks shattered the previous record for checks on a Black Friday. The FBI conducted 185,345 background checks on Black Friday; the previous record was just over 175,000 on Black Friday in 2014.

Went yesterday to buy some reloading supplies, gun store was crowded with 1st time shoppers...in liberal California.
