we do fun things and cook great stuff together instead.

I buy gifts. I love to cheer people up. It is fun. But I don't like to be told what time of year, or what to buy.
What I especially despise is the phone "Merry Christmas, come buy from us" ruse. Where is the true cheer in that?
 
maybe because your new the edit isn't there yet.

gifting at this time of years makes lots of people really happy.

Ha ha ha, exactly, order your stuff online. There are tons of sales online at that time and besides, you don't have to fight traffic and crowds. Plan ahead and it can be at your door early Friday morning.
