How do we really know that AQ and ISIS are really that different? They have the same goals. In fact most muslims have the same goal as ISIS.

Welp, the question of when this thread would degenerate into open racism has been answered.

Muslims are doing most of the work--and taking most of the casualties--in fighting Daesh. All Muslim authorities have condemned Daesh in no uncertain terms. Apparently, to you, strong condemnations, disavowals, and combat are manifestation of sharing "the same goals."

Very interesting. And rather like saying "most Republicans share Obama's goals" when they've been doing everything possible to fight Obama since he took office.

Perhaps you should educate yourself on the topic if you are are unaware that the French have been actively involved in the conflict in the ME.

Get back to me when you have a basic understanding of the situation.
 
We must have a strategy that would explain a plan about what to do after ISIS is destroyed.

We have proven that we can destroy any group that tries to exert power in Iraq. The Iraqi military was much stronger that the JV team that is ISIS. We have in fact contained ISIS's territorial reach in Syria and Iraq.

The only way forward that would justify continued military involvement would include a plan for after the use of force that would lead to a better situation than what currently exists.

The same was Al Queda was destroyed. The same way the Iraqi army was destroyed. The problem is that if you leave the region, the same type of desperate faux-religious extremism will pop up.
 
The only thing I know that will help stabilize the region that was Iraq is the instillation of another secular strong man like Saddam Hussein.

We could do like we did in Japan, and install a U.S. or U.N. military leader who will have power for 20 or so years until a government can be grown and developed that might take root. I suspect it would take 40 or 80 years until this generation has died out and a new generation can enjoy the benefits of a Western style education.

Al Qaeda wasn't destroyed, it still exists, along with a lot of other factions that hate and fight each other.

Their one unifying goal is hatred of infidels on Muslim soil.

Let's do what O-BOMB-YA promised he'd do 8 years ago and GTFO.

I'm not willing to impose a puppet government propped up by an embattled occupation force on anyone for the benefit of a few oil companies.

It's nuts to think we should forcibly occupy other sovereign nations for decades.
