Republicans call for "more guns" in predictable response

Newt Gingrich tweeted that concealed carry permits could have prevented the hostage crisis at Paris's Bataclan theater.

Donald Trump also tweeted about France's gun control policies.

Then there are our beloved JPP hoplosexuals, who couldn't wait to call for universal gun carry as their solution to everything.

As usual.

The venue where the vast majority of the deaths occurred was a concert hall crammed with people. The house lights were dimmed and the stage lighting was intense, as was the noise level from the stage.

Do any of these idiots seriously think armed audience members in that situation could have blazed away in a gunfight with terrorists and avoided carnage?

But I imagine it would have made our keyboard crusaders "feel" better, and hoplosexuals are all about their feels.

Well, I like to explain the phenomenon in terms of the political economy of the gun industry--it's a collapse of marketing and political propaganda. But it's true that the fascination with guns does seem pathological in some individuals.

The Nation had a good article about this exact subject a few weeks back...

I saw that. I may even have posted it, but then the Great Purge came along and we lost 1.5 years worth of data.

Our JPP armchair Clint Eastwoods probably think the gunfights they see in movies are real, and that having everybody strapped, cocked and locked is the solution to everything.

Yes, their idea of good and evil is childlike and it's genuinely frightening to me to think that some of the nutcases I've encountered online over the years have lots of guns.

The Atlantic did a good article on how the legal history of open carry is rooted in the hyperviolent slave South....

This is probably how the JPP hoplosexuals fantasize about saving everyone from gunners in a darkened theater or concert hall.

In their video games it's so simple and fun to shoot the bad guys. Do you mean to say real life is different?

No, I fought in Nam and it was basically exactly like Call of Duty.
