"under God": added during the era of the McCarthy hearings.

Now, why would we want to be continually reminded of the McCarthy hearings with the "under God" designation in a pledge of allegiance? That period was a dastardly stain on our history. It should be removed from the pledge. Actually, the whole pledge of allegiance should be eliminated.
 
Yes; we must eliminate any references to God or the pledge of allegiance and instead worship BIG Government Nanny Statism!!!
 
Isn't the rest of the Pledge discriminatory against leftists for proclaiming allegiance to the flag they love to burn?

How about people with religious bans on swearing oaths? Somehow they've survived silently not reciting the flag except when being ordered to and having to file civil rights suits.

Somehow, Christians in this country survived for over 50 years without needing "under God" in the pledge.

What changed all that?

Why did suddenly become so needy?

Considering the term allegiance, and the hierarchical relationship between the people, the State, and the federal government, as recorded in Article Ten of the Bill of Rights, the pledge of allegiance to the flag, and to the United States, should be abolished. All who work for government should be required, every morning, to pledge their allegiance to the people whom they serve; and to reaffirm their oath to uphold the Constitution. This would be a daily reminder of their status, and their servile position. It is predictable that their attitude would change.

I'd love for the next Democrat presidential candidate to campaign on this. Why won't liberals do this? Why do they insist on doing it through judicial fiat?

I agree. I always think of this loyalty oath as something required by totalitarian states. We need to dump it.

Homosexuals went over two centuries without being legally married. What changed all that? Why are they so damn needy all of a sudden?
 
We are not one nation under God. We are a nation who has turned her back on God. Of course I speak corporately, as there are many who still believe in God.

It's the same with school prayer. Why would a believer want a teacher who hates God to lead their child in prayer.

All the world belongs to God. There was a time in our nations history where we saw ourselves , corporately speaking, as a Christian nation. That time has long since past.

The Bellamy salute is the salute described by Francis Bellamy to accompany the American Pledge of Allegiance, which he had authored. During the period when it was used with the Pledge of Allegiance, it was sometimes known as the "flag salute". During the 1920s and 1930s, Italian fascists and Nazis adopted a salute which had the same form, resulting in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the United States. It was officially replaced by the hand-over-heart salute when Congress amended the Flag Code on December 22, 1942.

Since certain countries adopted it some 65 years later, what connection are you attempting to make?

Do you also intend to try and make some kind of comparison to ancient cultures and the Nazi's use of the swastika?

The early 20th Century saw a huge movement in nationalism everywhere. The Pledge came out of this. So, too, did the modern high school system. All of the pageantry, honours, customs, and rallies were designed to create the fanatical school spirit that would lead to nationalistic tendencies (the KKK was anti-private schools in this time, because they wanted access to students as well).
