We need to dramatically increase funding for section 8. This has become such an ugly country filled with ugly people. I guess more likely it's always been this ugly...underneath it all.

The government doesn't have all that great of a track record with it's attempts to run housing. What if the government actually let builders build more housing? On the San Francisco Peninsula, the Silicon Valley and Marin County, three areas that vote heavily Democratic, NIMBYism is strong and it is damn near impossible to build new housing. Not that much different in San Francisco where the permitting process is so long and drawn out that the only building that pencils out is high end. Then locals complain a lack of affordable housing.

I understand people liking their neighborhoods the way they are. But often these are the same people who will complain about the environment when instead of building around them builders must build further out causing longer commutes etc.

Maybe that makes all of us in the Bay Area ugly people.

When I was in Vegas, I got a free cookie with a meal. I didn't eat my cookie, but I didn't throw it away either. I walked out into the street and found a man in a wheelchair with a leg missing, holding a sign that said he was homeless. I gave him my cookie. The man's face lit up like it was the greatest gift he's ever received. Giving is a great feeling, and I don't know why more people don't just freakin' do it, rather than ask the government to do it for them.

I don't remember if it was here or AOL but people were ragging on Ken and calling him a bot, saying he never served in 'Nam etc. and he responded with the details of his company, where he was stationed, and even posted a picture from that time. And I'm pretty sure he also said which state he lives in but I'm not going to put it out there. Also, I had a couple of brief private convos with him when he first came to JPP.

Wonder why grind doesn't ban that "wordcreatoretc." bot who only posts stuff from the Examiner and never, ever comments otherwise.

These young entrepreneurs migrating to Silicon Valley need to see these people, and they need to know what real problems we as a society are challenged with. Shoving them in a house or trying to convince them to leave is not solving jack. If these rich young start-ups want to do some real problem solving, solve THAT problem, and quit asking the tired old inefficient government to do it for them. Oh, and killing them is not a real solution. Yeah, it's great that we can get an app on our phones now that I can quickly find a place to stay anywhere I travel (airbnb) but what about finding a place for the homeless to stay.

wordcreatoretc is a bot but he posts here so infrequently you hardly notice him.

It's interesting you say you've had a conversation with ken and he's a real person. Obviously he likes to post cartoons and links from alternet but doesn't want to participate in any follow up discussion. I'm not exactly sure his reason for not wanting to, and to each his own, but most people who frequent these sites like to have discussions over political topics. It's just pretty random for a person to have spent so much time on these boards yet never participate.

The homeless have a place to stay. Its called California. We bus them out there so they can live in the nice warm climate and be taken care of by the oh so giving liberals. That is why you never ever see homeless people in CA. The Dems take care of them all.

I am sorry you are not bright enough to have a conversation. Nothing Ken does is threatening. I simply stated his is mostly useless. I also stated I do believe he does it as and attempt to get $ for clicks for alternet etc...
