You were saying?

But from any given national perspective you need to export more than you import. Ideally we should keep the exporting and stop the importing. And no exporting jobs doesn't count. And just because we stop importing doesn't mean we have to stop exporting. We could do that.

Why do you need agreements then? I don't expect you to understand the folly of free trade agreements. Most don't and never

If you are going to allow goods to cross borders freely why do you need agreements?

Agreement should only be one page.

"You wanna trade?"

"Yeah, you?"

"OK"

Done

In a truly free market there should be almost no barriers to trade, I agree. The reality though is the world doesn't work that way so within our current context how do we best promote the movement of goods and capital around the globe? If it means forced agreements where countries will stop with tariffs and allow for trade then that's how we have to do it.

We all know politicians will do what they think is best for their re-election chances even if it is bad economic policy. With trade it's a lot easier to point to a group of industry workers that have been affected negatively than it is to point out the benefit to the economy as a whole. So we know politicians will pander to that group of workers and try and 'protect' them. That's why we won't have truly free trade.

Other countries are not as stupid as we are. We should implement our own protectionist measures.

LOL, you think other countries are only going to buy our goods and expect to sell nothing to us? Wow.

So again, what happens when the nations we export to stop buying our stuff?

So Romney's advisors tried to claim that there's a difference between ‘outsourcing’ and ‘off-shoring in order to deflect attention from the outsourcing that Romney had done. More bullshit from the right, so what?

1) There IS a difference in outsourcing and offshoring. Outsourcing can be done to either another US firm or a foreign firm. It is when the company does not actually employ the labor or produce the product (or a portion of it)

2) Off shoring means the jobs ARE going to be outside of the US. It can either be within the company or without.

I know why we don't have free trade. It is the same reason we have "social safety nets".

Life is hard and people want the gobblement to be their Baby Daddy

So you agree we should tap our own energy resources? at least 15% of our imports are from oil/nat gas
