GM Investing $12 Billion in China

Trade agreements, while typically touted as good for the economy and therefore employment, have had the effect of pitting American workers against competitors in low wage countries, thereby driving wages down in the U.S.

So you essentially believe all that is sold in the U.S. should be made in America. Of course that will bring higher costs to U.S. consumers but I'm assuming you believe that to an acceptable trade-off?

What will happen to U.S. businesses and jobs when we stop exporting things? If we aren't going to trade with other countries they aren't going to buy from us. Is that going to help our economy and country grow?

And Crash you still haven't described what is wrong with our current trade agreements. Rana feel free to answer since you agreed with him.

Economic downturn for all countries

Job loss

Manufacturing lost

Corporation off shoring jobs

Loss of taxes businesses hiding assets

Trade defiits

Gm sucks balls no doubt!
But I love it
Google globalism it adds jobs.
China will contribute big to my gains this year.

I am not opposed to globalism. I am opposed to gobblement bailouts of ANY company. I am just bathing in the hypocrisy of the lefties who loved the bailout of GM and said we had to do it to "save jobs in the US". Of course, it wasn't to do that. It was to bail out the auto union and screw the bond holders.

I hope Obama gets melanoma and croaks

Trade agreements are stupid. You don't need an "agreement" to trade with a country. That isn't how the free market is supposed to work. Trade agreements are merely there so some vested interests can protect their interests from the "free trade" while others get screwed. Free trade agreements are nothing more than gobblement run crony capitalism..

Big government republicans love em just as much as democrats.

Crash of course opposes them for the wrong reasons, but he is right to oppose them

All this wishing people dead will give you wrinkles and brain damage.

Please explain how trading with other countries promotes downturns for all countries. If that was the case North Korea would be the leading economy in the world.

Do you think the cutting off of U.S. exports is going to increase jobs in the U.S. and grow the economy?

Edit: How do you believe countries like South Korea and China have grown economically like they have over the past 30 to 40 years?

Labor in all countries is played against each other, to get the cheapest rates. As less is payed in wages in all countries, the whole economy stagnates as people have less money to spend.

If its jobs we're exporting, it's self explanatory, idjit.

Tariffs used to protect certain domestic industries are what is stupid. Free trade is about having the ability to purchase and sell freely across the globe.

So if all countries only build and buy from within their own country we will have higher growth and a higher standard of living?

Tariffs are whs

Tariffs should be reimplemented. Protectionism is good, as the base of the word is PROTECT.

From where we are now, if we replaced all imports with American made stuff, we would have an INCREASE in our production. Think about it for a second. We mostly export jobs now, and that's fucking dumb.

What would we replace our exports with? Because we're currently sitting at #1 world wide in terms of manufacturing and I know we're not buying up everything we make.

Why do you need agreements then? I don't expect you to understand the folly of free trade agreements. Most don't and never

If you are going to allow goods to cross borders freely why do you need agreements?

Agreement should only be one page.

"You wanna trade?"

"Yeah, you?"

"OK"

Done
