Right behind Delaware when it comes to obesity is the heavily Republican Louisiana, which has an obesity rate of 32.7% in Gallup’s study—and Louisiana has also had, according to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2012, a poverty rate of 19.9% [8] (the third highest in the U.S.). A state with as much poverty and obesity as Louisiana is a prime example of why healthcare reform needs to go forward, yet Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (a possible candidate in the 2016 GOP presidential primary) has called for repealing Obamacare. Obesity and all the problems that go with it, from heart disease to high blood pressure to Type 2 diabetes, are better controlled when one has adequate access to healthcare, and Republicans like Jindal only make it harder for the poor to see a doctor.
 
The article doesn't make any link whatsoever between Republican policies and obesity.

One of the fundamental rules of logic is: Correlation =/= Causation. Just because all murderers chew gum does not mean all who chew gum are murderers.

It's just a weak and stupid piece, and a waste of time.

I bet you still believe there is no connection between cigarettes and lung cancer and that the people in the book A Civil Action (1996) didn't die from poisons in their water either. Dioxin is safe at any concentration and oil spills don't kill wildlife because they were all dying eventually anyway! There is no such thing as cause and effect didn't Hume already prove that? It's all just synchronicity!

Instead of histrionics and irrelevancies, how about drawing a connection stronger than the article's "ZOMG! The governor of Louisiana opposes Obamacare and people there are fat!"

As Obama is so fond of reminding us, Obamacare is now the law of the land. Are you now all tossing a new promise of it eradicating obesity on top of the already considerable heap of failed Obamacare promises? Yes? No? What's your point?

Is your faith in your fellow man so low that you think people need a physician to tell them they're 100 pounds overweight? Are Medicaid physicians incapable of delivering this message?

I'm one of those 30+ percent in OK. Most can't tell it but I'm 20 lbs overweight at 6' and one of these days it may cost me. All you have to do is go to Walmart and look at us. We are absolutely too fat. I have no excuse other that a love for food and that every social gathering involves food of some kind. Church gatherings...pot luck. Go to the movies...but by way of Red Lobster. Go to our kids' ballgames but go to Braums for ice cream afterward. I hunt and fish a lot so when folks come to my house we have wild game meals or fish fry's and all that goes with it. A good evening of visiting with friends, but all centered around good food. I don't know why we do it. Our social interaction here tends to center around food. And I don't like a lot of governor Fallin's policies but I don't think my being overweight or our social habits are her fault.

spoken like a true moron... tell us Dantes... what exactly is the link between Republican policy and obesity? You want to know what much of the south is at the high end of obesity... THEY FRY MOST OF THEIR FOOD.
 
Two quick observations from this thread

1. Were LA citizens always fat, or just because Jihndal thinks Obamacare is a bad law? Poor people have always had access to healthcare. Obamacare offers nothing new to fat people in LA.

2. LA is second behind the fatties in DE? Isn't DE a blue state?
