You cant live within your means, when you dont earn enough to even buy basic necessities. Need I remind you millions are unemployed and underemployed and theres walmart workers on food stamps and somehow someway THE TEAPARTIERS believe its the fault of those that have been screwed by american corporations and the teapartiers employers the 2%. They expect these same people to save enough to retire on without social security because thats unconstitutional yanno and its a ponzi scheme and of course pay for their own health insurance. ALL ON 7.25 an hour because they wont raise the minimum wage.

And in urban public housing it is quite easy to find those fitting your bill equipped with all of the latest Hilfiger, Nike, and Apple products. It becomes quite easy to have means when you work a steady job for cash, receive subsidized housing, food, and free Medicaid.
I live in a middle class neighborhood, with no rental units around for miles, yet in my supermarket I seem to be the only person shopping who doesn't use an EBT card.
Yeah, there are people out there in dire straits, but not nearly in the numbers the government presents us, simply because the government can not document undocumented workers. Nor are they interested in doing so, because in essence the Democrats are buying a constituency.
And there are all sorts of fundamental checks that could be put in place to preclude fraud, but doing so would also preclude new Democrats.
So here we are...

If you read that much-talked about NY Times article from a few months back, "The Invisible Children," about a welfare girl named Dasani and her family in Brooklyn, you learn quite a bit of reality. Every year the families all eagerly anticipate that Earned Income Tax check for $7000 to $8000... they talk about putting it away to move to a better home, etc.
And every year they blow it all on junk.

With respect, savings rates in the U.S. have been dropping for decades. Depending on your economic beliefs we are a demand driven economy where the consumer needs to spend and savings are not a good thing. Yes, if one's full time job pay's minimum wage they probably aren't going to have much savings. That isn't going to change is the minimum wage is raised to $12 or $15. Plus individuals like that are more likely to put what savings they do have into a savings deposit or maybe a government bond and with the devaluing of our currency and Feds keeping interest rates so low real rates of return are negative so people are actually losing money. A good way to discourage savings.
