You're saying there should be no drug testing of airline pilots, school bus drivers, long-haul truckers, cops, fire fighters or the technicians that build and maintain the equipment these people use? And you're an atheist?

No, you didn't say that. Signalmancommie did. It's right there in the thread title, " It's Time to End All Drug Testing". I'll say one thing for him, he's got a lot of faith in his fellow man.
None of this has anything to do with rights. They are conditions of employment. You don't like the conditions, you are not compelled to accept the job.
But if it was about rights, what about the rights of the employer? Doesn't an employer have the right to know if he's hiring a criminal, who may have a $200-a-day heroin habit? Doesn't an employer have the right to know this before allowing a stranger access to his property and livelihood? And it also needs to be pointed out that such an employee can negatively impact the job security of perfectly innocent co-workers.
As far as positions that directly affect public safety, like airline pilots and the police... self-regulation may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
The way I see it is that unless the person is engaged in an activity which could endanger lives, drugs testing is a fundamental violation of that person's rights.
Don't want to take the test? Don't take it. Walk out the door and never come back. No rights violated.
Worried about your boss finding out you're a criminal? Easy peasy. Don't be a criminal.
So where does that end? Are they entitled to find out about your sexual history and who you are friendly with as well? Anyway there is a difference between peeing in a cup to get a job and regular testing whilst in employment. My son works for the U.S. company Cisco in London but nobody is asked to do drug tests, why is that? If the brokers in the City had to take drug tests there would hardly be anyone left.
with the penalties incurred by companies for accidents at work, they should reserve the right to know if it is because of drug usage.
To me, this would include even fast food establishments. Those places can actually be pretty dangerous places to work if you don't pay attention or you're stoned.
