Why every serious environmentalist should favour fracking

why cant you guys convince the vast majority of the people of this planet that are educated in the fields of science if your "facts' are so convincing?

Really so the vast amount of gov scientist didn't ban.
Education she is why you should get it.

why have these arguments not convinced the vast majority of the scientific field of the rights position on this issue?

No one denies the use of chemicals- BUT do note that there have been no reports of those chemicals effecting ground water used for drinking; Here is a recent study about this very thing:

Weren't they lighting their tap water on fire in some states due to fracking? Not to mention fracking involves drilling near fault lines. Do the pros outweigh the cons?

Cheap energy, clean energy, or poisoned drinking water, soil, air, local earthquakes that can do millions/billions dollars of damage?

I say we wait until a safer method is discovered to extract the gas. Plus there are so many other alternatives. I hear they plan to turn the moon into a solar power station and I hear they are working on ways to tap the earth's core thermal energy.

Sure there is. It just isn't cost affective.
Is this what you are talking about?

With a water source as toxic as fracking wastewater, though, you would think that the researchers would note that a 90% removal rate of salt and other ‘impurities’ likely isn’t going to cut it. And beyond any of that, it’s just hard to imagine such a method being economical on a large scale. But when you look at regions like south Texas, that are in states of extreme drought but still seeing as much as 25% of their very limited water supplies go towards fracking, even while agriculture and cattle ranching in the region is drying up, the approach makes a bit more sense. Or I should say that the desperation for some good PR makes a bit more sense….

Something else to note, though — the quantity of wastewater that can be recovered from fracking is actually rather limited anyways, only 20-25% on average, so even with an effective economical means of treating the water, fracking is bad news for water-scarce regions.

The new research was just published in the journal ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering.

Both sides are biased. That doesn't mean that both sides are wrong. Frackers need to convince everyone that the technology is safe and worth it. So far they are striking out.

On Feb. 11, an explosion at a Chevron natural gas well in Bobtown, Pa. exploded, killing one worker. The fire burned for four days and gas and heat are still emanating from the site. The cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time and residents of Bobtown remain understandably concerned about the safety of other wells in the area.

The situation at the well "remains serious," Chevron said in a statement Tuesday.

Chevron To Pennsylvania Town: Sorry We Murdered You With Fracking, Here’s A Coupon For Pizza

^ you can't make this stuff up! :palm:

Newsflash gas is flammable.

lol who woulda thunk...

That’s some outreach, that Chevron Community Outreach. In addition to the free pizzas, the residents of Bobtown or Dunkard Township also get to worry about strange odors and maybe their drinking water catching on fire, so it’s kind of a gift that keeps on giving. As this Ken Layne guy at Gawker notes, Chevron left some other gifts for the community:

Both wells continue leaking natural gas into the air, and Chevron was given special permission to take a million gallons from nearby Dunkard Creek to pour over the noxious wells and sink back into the groundwater supply. Drinking water poisoned by the fracking industry is responsible for a wave of illness and disease in Southwest Pennsylvania, although the area’s boom in natural gas fracking is just six years old—longer term exposure to many of the poisons produced by the wells, such as benzene, are known causes of cancer and birth defects.

Like many parts of Pennsylvania, the rural community of Bobtown is covered with fracking wells. The government of Pennsylvania is completely owned and operated by the natural gas industry, to the point where it’s illegal for doctors in the state to let patients know that fracking is killing people.
