A&E suspended Phil Robertson

How can you say they are going to lose a lawsuit when you haven't seen the employment contract they have with the guy they suspended? Do you even know if they stopped paying him?

People in the US have a right to assemble, a corporation is just such an assembly. The attempt to silence an assembly is both unconstitutional and inane. All of those people have a right to both assemble and a right to free speech, it's even the same amendment. The corporation isn't any different than the individuals that make up its assembly, because it IS those people.

Saying that these people in particular just don't have the same rights as those people because they have assembled into a group is absolutely inane totalitarianism.

You've assembled, therefore you must maintain silence. There is no statement more obviously unconstitutional that I have seen here on this site.

You have to be the only dunce on the planet that thinks this is not about gay rights Fascists. The "something else" that is compelling them to suspend the patriarch of their number one show putting almost a billion in revenue at risk is called PCI; Politically Correct Ignorance.

What A&E should have done is stood beside their redneck hero and said that they believe in the Constitution and Phil's right to speak his mind no matter whom it might offend and we will continue printing money thanks to him regardless of the dimwitted threats from GLAAD and arrogant hypocrites from the left who think that free speech is limited to their Fascist views and agenda.

Hell, I might start watching that show if they showed that level of courage and common sense. As it stands, I hope they fire Phil and that the family walks off the network only to get a more lucrative deal from someone with more brains and intelligence than the executive team at A&E.

Dear dimwit; Clear Channel conducted no actions against the DC's. Some of their stations might have chosen to not play their music as a result of listener’s requests.

Secondly, DC's were not employed by Clear Channel; these two cases are not remotely similar.

The Boston Globe editorial page today runs a curious correction: “An editorial Tuesday misidentified the radio chain that pulled the Dixie Chicks from its country stations’ playlists in 2003. It was Cumulus Media, not Clear Channel Communications.” The editorial is linked from the correction.

But neither is a freedom of speech issue. I support their right to say whatever they want to say. I support their contractors/employers or whatever to take whatever action they deem necessary. And I also support my right to agree or disagree or both, depending in the situation. No doubt about it, freedom of speech wasn't thwarted in either case. Consequences of speech is what we've been addressing.

I disagree, I simply think when groups of people act in concert, as they do in a for profit corporation, they do not come from the same place as a person speaking for himself.
