A&E suspended Phil Robertson

Cons, please give me an honest answer...

Did you support Clear Channel when they banned the Dixie Chicks?

Yes, we are all speculating, but the position you stated above is the same one I see him coming from. He was relating his personal experience. Talking about the people he grew up with and those he worked with. He was not talking about the country as a whole.

My guess, taking what he said and then assuming... (I know this is not what he said and I am assuming) is that this loon from Duck Dynasty believes that black people were better under Jim Crow because they were not complaining or feeling entitled and were happy, based on his observations.

Absolutly. That isn't the debate this thread is having. I know it is long but zip through it. You'll not find one (unless I overlooked it) conservative saying that A&E didn't have the right to suspend Phil Robertson.

He accurately articulated the religious doctrine of millions of Christians, seriously? Do you also equate homosexuality with the raping of animals. Do articulate for us.

He didn't equate them. He paraphrased a bible verse that listed some sins.

Again... do you or Desh actually know what Jim Crow laws ARE? Do you know what laws existed in LA at the time?

Do you just toss in Jim Crow because that is how you will paint this man as a 'racist'?

Big difference between saying they didn't have the right to do it vs. they shouldn't have done it

I should have said segregation instead of Jim Crow.

Dearest little twit... Robertson had every right to answer the questions the interviewer put forth. A&E had a right to fire him if they felt his answers were offensive. I think A&E made a mistake for doing so. I think idiots like you are deliberately twisting what Robertson said to make him out to be some sort of monster... all because you are filled with hate for those that think differently from you.

I was not aware that Howey was banned. Given how hard it is to get banned on this forum, then he obviously violated a rule AGAIN. Given the main ones people get banned for are accusations of pedophilia and putting RL personal info up about others... well, you can defend him if you wish.

Again... if a Muslim had been asked the question about sin and had listed homosexuality as a sin... would the left's outrage been the same?

If you agree that a&e has such a right then you certainly have not been clear on that with your whining about religious persecution.

I have not twisted the disgusting and vile things he said. It was not simply a claim that he viewed it as a sin.

I did not realize that the rhetoric of Fred Phelps had been mainstreamed but you seem to think it's perfectly acceptable for polite conversation now, as long as it's coming from someone you identify as right wing.

I am not defending Howey, idiot. I might possibly criticize it as unfair (if i thought it was) but it is certainly not a violation of his rights as all the right wing crybabies are claiming about Phil. You and the right wingers should be but you are all hypocrites.

I am not asking if Cons argued that they had the right or did not have the right or what you argued about if they had the right....

I do not support what A&E did, but I agree they had the right...

I am asking if you supported what Clear Channel did?

I agree, but did any Cons say that Clear Channel should not have banned the Dixie Chicks, or did you support them in that decision?

Please explain how those comments make him racist.

Setting aside racism for a minute, he said "The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash."

Is he equating being black with being trash? He could have left off the white trash part and still made his point. He could have said "I'm with the blacks because we all did the that kind of dirty work together."

I look at his comment as coming from someone who's been ingrained with casual racism all his life. If you ever read To Kill a Mockingbird you'd know what I mean.

I know many of you Cons want to confuse and avoid the question, but it was clear... not did you agree Clear Channel had the right, but did you support what they did?

And I agree with him. Sin has become "fine" as in OK. It's ok with almost everyone and society is pressuring those who it's still not fine with for it to be fine. It can be seen by contrasting this situation with that of the recent Miley Cyrus situation. Vulgar, immoral, ... But that's ok. It's fine.

No, it was not fine and both right and left were appalled by her performance. I guess you missed all the criticism leveled at her, I sure didn't.

What the hell is your point GARUD? Clear Channel and A&E both had the right to ban/suspend the Ditzie chicks and Robertson. Both the Ditzie Chicks and Robertson had the right to say what they/he did. So what is your point that you so desperately want to make that you keep trying to bring up Clear Channel?

Do you think everyone's moral values MUST be the same as yours....???

Should we all evaluate what you think and judge your moral code ?

No, but on the other hand why do some Christians, like fundamentalist, feel that everyone needs to go by their moral code?

WTF??? DO YOU KNOW WHAT JIM CROW LAWS PERTAIN TO?

You are supposedly a lawyer... please tell me the above is a joke.

I do, but segregation is a broader term that includes more and so when you objected to the term Jim Crow, I agreed and changed my word. Geesh, you are such a tight wad you jump at any chance to assume someone is saying something you find surprising.

He is saying that 'white trash' was treated in a similar fashion to the blacks in his neighborhood at the time. He was calling HIMSELF white trash.

Look at the way 'white trash' is treated today Christie. How many of your fellow left wingers constantly belittle those of the south? Those they feel are 'beneath' them?

Mutt is a perfect example.
