Could Any American Citizen Actually Believe That This "Cop" Was On Their Side?

To play devils advocate, any accident where ANYONE driving had any alcohol is typically deemed a DUI incident. So even if the person drinking wasn't at fault, that's how it's going to be recorded and that's how it's going to be found at court.

What if the driver blew less than 0.08 at the scene?

They were once called peace officers, now they're called law enforcement officers. Their uniforms used to be blue, the color of liberty. Their faces were always visible before the citizens. They wore name tags that were clearly readable by the citizens. They either walked a beat with a Billy club or drove marked police cars. They used to know who was and who wasn't supposed to be in your neighborhood after dark. They patrolled your neighborhood at night in their police cars. They used to be civilians.

Now they wear Para military uniforms and the above example looks like something out of Orwell's 1984. They carry military weapons and ride in armored personnel carriers. They consider every citizen a potential criminal.

What's happened to the police culture in America and more importantly why? Are the police now an enforcement branch, the strong arm of Big Brother?
Are they now government strong armed enforcers? They certainly look and act the part and this my friends is very alarming to me.

If you are looking at SWAT members; yes, they are paramilitary. Regular cops don't look like this so your claim is false.

If you're a hostage being held in a building; I'm quite certain that someone dressed in this fashion would be welcome.

I've never understood this irrational paranoia and hatred of law enforcement, but I can say it has to be the shittiest job on earth and in some Democrat controlled cities, more dangerous than Afghanistan.

Every day these officers have to deal with the losers and dregs of society, only to see the never ending revolving door of Liberal justice putting these predatory losers back on the streets. They typically know these losers by name they see them so often.

I'm glad there are people who want to do this thankless job just as much as I am thankful there are those who join the military and put their lives at risk for others freedom. There's nothing to fear from the police unless you're a crook or a dimwit; which are you?

Now THIS is what I consider an abomination. How many thousands died because of drunk driving, and all the driver got was a slap on the wrist?

And before you call me a punk liberal or some such insult, I knew a woman who drove drunk, speeding down an icy road, and went into a pole, killing herself. She left behind a couple of little kids, the boy was only two years old.

And before you bring up Ted Kennedy, I believe he should have been convicted and thrown into the slammer. So we good on this?

My brother was run over by a drunk driver.

Because they have a god damned RIGHT do go where ever the hell they want. If they're not doing anything illegal cops can fuck off and die.

And you're demanding that people give up their right to travel where and when they please. You're not better, fascist.

Scenario: A 911 call comes in. It's 2:00 a.m. The caller says a suspicious man is walking up and down the street looking into parked cars.

The police arrive. There has already been two car break-ins reported this week. Upon arrival the responding officer sees a man walking from car to car looking inside them. He's carrying a tire iron. Nothing he's doing is illegal.

What should the officer do? Stop and question the man, or "eff" off?

prove your claim
there's NO LAW that denies a cop the right to ask anyone any question at all. What there IS, though, is the right of YOU not to have to answer any questions OR be detained if they are not investigating a crime. it's no different than if I stop you to ask a question, you do not have to answer me or stay there. it's whats called a 'consensual stop'.

Can a police officer stop you for no reason?

There may be a reason even if they didn’t tell you.

The burden of proof to stop someone is called “reasonable suspicion”. The burden of proof to search someone is called “probable cause”.

When it appears that you have been stopped for no reason it is called a “Terry Stop”. The name comes from the standards established in a 1968 case, Terry v. Ohio. Remember, all the police need at this point is a ‘reasonable suspicion.’ Police will use a Terry Stop as a tool if he or she observes unusual conduct which leads him or her to reasonably suspect that criminal activity may be occurring. This is a gray area and left to interpretation.

asking a person questions is NOT the same as stopping them.

you can keep walking and speak to them while walking unless they tell you to stop.

If they ask you to stop you can ask them if your free to go.

if they say NO then you are being stopped for an investigation.

another supreme idiot

Oh lookie here, a paranoid idiot calling others idiots for not wallowing in the same paranoia. Truly the definition of irony.

Your irrational fear and distrust of the police suggest someone in need of psychiatric help...I'm not trying to be obtuse...seriously dude, get help.

I'm noticing no one wants to "discuss"; irrational paranoia seeks like minds and seldom want to "discuss" anything rational, but rather, remain paranoid in their irrational make believe world where they can find comfort in their ignorance.

Experience tells me people prefer to start these stories at the end.

By ignoring everything that lead up to the incident we have "PRESTO! The police stopped me for no reason."
