MI veto-proof ‘rape insurance’ close to becoming law w/ 4.2% voter approval

Yes, I saw that, but again, I am not up to speed on how Michigan law works.

not that complicated....the constitution provides for a possible override of a governor's veto if petitions are filed with sufficient signatures....

the matter is then scheduled for public referendum unless both houses of Congress pass the requested law....because that happened, the referendum is not required......

So this thing passed both houses of Michigans state Congress? So it is not just a small fringe, it was a majority of the states legislature?

The citizens' initiative approved 62-47 by the House and 27-11 in the Senate — almost entirely along party lines — will become law in March without the signature of Republican Gov. Rick Snyder, who vetoed similar legislation a year ago. The anti-abortion group Right to Life collected more than 300,000 signatures to put the legislation before lawmakers, who also had the option of letting it go to a statewide vote next November.

The law prohibits insurance companies from offering abortion coverage as part of both public and private health plans, except when a woman's life is at risk. Employers and individuals who want abortion coverage must buy supplemental policies, known as riders.

Michigan is the ninth state to restrict private plans from covering the procedure. Seven of the states — Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and Oklahoma — allow patients to purchase riders, just as Michigan will.

yes.......27-11 in the senate, 62-47 in the house......pretty much the same ratio as last year when they passed it and Snyder vetoed it....

This is about a law that was passed because of a special-interest petition from 4% of the voters and no amount of spinning is going to change that.

You can try to make it about your legislature but we can all see through that deflection.
