Martin Bashir has learned something Alec Baldwin already knows: Even a cable news host can say too much.

MSNBC announced Wednesday that Bashir, a commentator and occasional substitute host, is leaving after an uproar over his remarks last month about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Disputing Palin's position that compared the national debt to slavery, Bashir during an on-air segment called Palin "America's resident dunce" and then suggested a slave-like scatalogical punishment for her. (Entire video is below; warning: strong language.)

He later apologized for the remarks, which brought widespread condemnation. This week — after some time off over the Thanksgiving holiday — he officially resigned after three years at the cable network.

"I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will always have a deep appreciation for our viewers — who are the smartest, most compassionate and discerning of all television audiences," Bashir wrote in a statement released Wednesday.

I'm glad MSNBC took this step, I hope Fox Republican News Channel would do the same if someone were to do something similar on that network.

I have never really much liked Martins style.


I would be HAPPY if mathews was gone next I like him even less.

I think that his - eh-hem "resignation", is a positive with regards to sending a message about what's OK and appropriate- However, I am with all of those in the know (media folks) who claim it's a mere farce, since his editors had to approve what was said. This means that Bashir was just the fall-guy for others.

she is a human being and its not the place of a news caster to suggest she be tortured by ANYONE.

Are you debating the fact that Sarah Palin looks better/classier than any Lib movie star? Did you see Bristol on DWTS, she is "RIGHT" up there with her Mom in the looks department. What about Katy Courick losing all her shows since she tried to make fun of pretty Sarah during that Wasila Alaska interview? Why do all you Libs have that arrogant know it all uppity attitude?
