How to get your company unionized

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
When you're making billions a year in profits and pay your fulltime employees so cheaply that they can't afford a decent Thanksgiving Dinner so instead of giving each full time employee a Turkey or a gift certificate you set up collectcion bins so that their fellow employees can spot them a meal?

That's how you get unionised.

Or when you're so out of touch with the lives of your employees that you give condescending advise on how to budget meals by cutting them into quarters or to get out of debt by returning Christmas gifts...that's also a good way to get unionized.

This is no BS. Both Walmart and McDonalds management have pulled these stunts recently.

A lot of the time today if anyone mentions the Union word they get fired. Now you can't get fired for that directly so the boss always has to find a different reason. Happens all the time.

Thats not the point. If Wally World and McD's lose public opinion due to their clueless insensitivity and their worker gain community support... Guess what could happen?

McDonald's does not own most of the sites you see a McDonald's at, they are almost 100% franchises. Going Union would not stop their profits at all. They get a percentage of gross sales and will continue to make their money regardless. Now if you want to go after a company that owns all their retail sites, Barnes & Noble or Starbucks is the place to aim. Small business owners are not at fault if their central Franchisers says something any more than you are if your HOA says something.

that's not my point. These sorts of stupidity on their managements part invite unionization.

Again, the Franchiser is not "the management" of any McDonald's out there. You do not know how the business works. The Franchiser will not be "punished" if some franchises "go union", nor will any one franchise going "union" change the others. Each is a business of its own. Telling them that "bad stuff will happen" (apparently you think their employees 'going union' is bad) because they said something you dislike when the "bad stuff" will not even affect them at all is just flat foolish.

Neither one is gonna unionize in this economy. They'll just be replaced within a DAY. No one will even notice.
