His excuse is, "I don't consider it a flag"?

REALLY?!?

Veteran fights battle to fly U.S., Marine Corps flag

A combat veteran is in a battle over a patriotic display outside his home. Former Marine Captain Jim Lowe tells FOX 5 the management at his community is trying to force him to take down either his U.S. flag, or his Marine Corps. colors.

Lowe, a decorated veteran, says he's been flying the U.S. flag along with the Marine Corps. colors for more than two years. But now, he says his Sun City community's management is asking him to take one of them down. If he doesn't, he says they've threatened to fine he and his wife $25 per day, as well as other possible legal action.

The community's codes and covenants clearly state that only one flag can be flown per house. Lowe maintains the Marine Corps colors is not a flag.

"I don't consider it a flag," he told FOX 5. "Most people don't. You talk to any Marine. Those are the colors. That is the flag."

Lowe says he has sent a letter to management asking them to retract the violation notice, but he has not received a reply yet. FOX 5 tried to contact the community's management group, but they have not responded yet.

I love how people move into communities that have certain rules, then bitch about the rules.

Truthfully? I think it's bullshit. I can understand people who don't take care of their property and drags the values of surrounding homes down....but this is over the top.

The point is he knew the rules before he ever moved into the neighborhood.

He doesn't get to move in and then piss and moan about rules he knew were in place long before he was a resident.

If he doesn't like the rules then he should attempt to become a member of the board or petition the board to change the rules.

True... he likely signed a document with his mortgage that included a billion different rules of the HOA. This is where HOA's have abused their power. They were designed originally to help avoid property devaluation do to neighbors not keeping their property looking nice. Like many things, they have grown too powerful. Something as simple as having two flags is moronic.

It's not hard to understand, even for a teabagger get trying to make a statement.

You bought the house, you made an agreement with the HOA. Period. Follow their rules or GTFO.

I'll bet he'd be the first one bitching if they don't mow his grass or someone hangs laundry out to dry or someone else plays music too loud.

If you sign an HOA you gotta live by it. But I wonder where he could have gotten the idea that he could change te rules because he didnt like them

;)

This is why I've never bought a house that's controlled by an HOA.

But yeah - if he doesn't like it, he can petition to change the rule.
