The Force is With Me
I can't remember every thing but Ervin basically said that they should wait to see how practices go with the other player before getting rid of the guy and Dion though the "punishment" so far was a bit harsh (wait, don't jump on me yet, I have more to say) and while Faulk wasn't ready to hang Cooper, he was harder on him than the other two. The segment ended with Dion questioning the panel (Eisen and all) with something like, "Y'all are going to give final judgment on this kid for this one incident...a moment of drunken stupidity. C'mon."
This is where I agree so much with Dion...I have never had a drink of an alcoholic beverage in my life so I have never been close to drunk, but I have dealt with drunks before. One of the best kids at our school got in trouble for being drunk on campus. He was a freshman. He served his time (suspension) and remained a good kid throughout high school. Kids (even 20-something year old kids) will say and do things under the influence of alcohol that they never would say or do. I saw somewhere in this thread that being drunk just lowered his inhibitions or something and that he must had racist tendencies to begin with. I don't know about that but I do know this. I never use curse words...but, after reading posts on this site since 2006 and on the other sites before this, I do have to suppress the tendency to use those words in my speech. I never cuss but sometimes think in those terms...thanks to some of you guys here. I hate to think what a good dose of alcohol might bring out. Thanks a lot guys!
Perhaps had this happened at a different time, it may not be as big a deal as it is. However, in this time of heightened racial tensions brought on by the Martin murder, what is transpiring should only be expected.
The question remains, what's up with white males and their love of calling people niggers?
If it wasn't in Cooper's head, it wouldn't have come out.
