Please. In my 60 years of life on this planet...the only thing that has given me hope and joy is the 40 % . And I am probably the least prejudiced person here. I don't have a beef with white Americans....I have a beef with racism, and bigotry, from any source. The sad thing is that so many whites are prejudiced and racist, and discriminatory and refuse to be accountable for it.
And I have no idea what you are talking about. Who are your people, who were slaves? What is that supposed to mean?

My people were the first slaves in the Americas....both North America and South America. We died from the Massachusetts colony all the way down to the Spice Plantations of South America. We were killed off in the millions and were considered to be and portrayed as sub human apes right up until the dawn of the 20th century. And it started before Columbus Discovered America...

My people went from a population of 10,000,000 to a population of 2.5 million in the course of 50 years. A genocide unprecedented by todays standard. 75% of a nation wiped off the Earth.

We are the IRISH.. We are the Original slaves in the Americas... hundreds of years before the arrival of African slaves.

While reading the excellent article posted by Darla (reposted above) a couple thoughts came to mind.

1) As Darla has been indicating as well - NO WHITE PERSON - none - knows what it's like to be suspected of wrong-doing just due to the color of your skin. To walk into a store and have clerks keep an extra eye on you. To walk down the street and have people cross to the other side. To be stopped by a cop because "someone like you" shouldn't be in that neighborhood. I include myself in that not knowing; I have a suspicion; I'm pretty empathetic; but I forget. If you are black, you can never forget. Anywhere you go, you are first judged negatively by your skin; you then have to attempt to make a better impression. Whites don't have to do that. Every single day, black people do.

2) I remember white men on this site talking about storming the govt; I left one thread quickly because it actually seemed treasonous to me. But they want to attack the govt because they think it no longer represents them; because it's taking their guns; because - well, whatever. I'm paraphrasing, and since I don't understand their reasoning, hard to get it all straight. But they have talked about overthrowing the govt violently. YET - when black people say "this govt isn't representing me; it's persecuting people of my race; it's discriminating against me" .... they say "no, they must be peaceful! no, there must not be a 'riot' over this! No, black people are just thugs if they raise up against this." Apparently it's only ok to fight back against govt if you are a white man.

I didn't tell BAC to shut up. I said that the 2 cases aren't comparable, and that INTENT is what separates them (by a wide margin).

You & the rest of the echo chamber have been tellling ME to shut up since I came on the thread, however. I didn't realize that I needed permission on a political message board to address black issues or women's issues or any issue specific to anyone who either experienced that issue or had ancestors that did. I'll be sure to go through the proper channels going forward, and will generally spend my days here just "listening" to those who are so clearly more qualified to speak on these important topics.

As I said, I will not make this egregious error in the future. I will refrain from comment on black & women's issues, or any issues that do not relate directly to my own experience as a middle-aged white male. Those experts who have been born into their qualifications on other issues should hold forth while I sit with rapt attention.

Darla, I never said that I KNEW GZ's intent. But you do not either. And I'd wager pretty strongly that he didn't start the day thinking murder; you may disagree on that.

We do know, without the shadow of a doubt, the intent of those who murdered Emmett Till, and exactly why they did it.

BOTH Emmett Till and Trayvon Martin were stalked BECAUSE THEY WERE BLACK.

NEITHER was doing anything other then minding their own business.

Had Zimmerman not stalked Martin and obeyed police instructions, he would still be alive.

I'm not interested in racist verdicts .. especially in a state like Florida where a black woman just got TWENTY YEARS for FIRING A SHOT INTO THE AIR TO WARD OFF SOMEONE WHO THREATENED HER. No previous criminal record .. 20 years in jail. Where were her 'stand your ground' rights?

30% of the population of Sanford is African-American .. yet, somehow, NONE made it to the jury.

Racist verdicts are no excuse for racism.
