An increase in the minimum wage causes an increase in wage inflation across the board. It is nonsense to pretend it helps the lower income families. It doesn't. Minimum wage jobs are predominantly held by students. They are paid minimum wage and they learn skills/work ethic in exchange. If you increase the wages for non skilled workers, the low skill and skilled are going to want corresponding increases as well. This increases cost of goods/services to the point that you are typically not changing the purchasing power. If anything, the minimum wage should be set at the state level as it will better reflect cost of living in the state.

You are quite simply so wrapped up in what gender someone happens to be that you don't realize that it isn't because someone is a woman. I talk to Dung and Lorax and others in a similar manner. Yet you like getting up on your high horse and pretending that every harsh word is because of gender. It isn't. I treat almost everyone in a similar manner... though admittedly I am harsher with the known idiots like Desh.

I used to be like you, but George Bush cured me of that. As I said they monkeyed with the free market. They deregulated wholesale prices at a time when prices were low. Thy kept retail prices fixed, you know the prices consumers pay?

That worked great for a while, but then wholesale prices went up and the providers could no longer absorb the increased costs because they could not pass those costs onto the consumer which led to shortages.

This always happens when geniuses think they know better than the market. Were electric companies partly to blame? Of course they went along with the scheme.but the politicians thought they knew better and it blew up their faces.

If you want to play the republicans are bad democrats are good game, that may make you sleep better at night, but I am not interested. I am into principle over party. You are the opposite.

I don't have a problem with states going higher than the federal minimum wage. That already happens.

ILA - If the minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it would now be $10.71 instead of the $7.25 that it is. So there's a number for you. At least $10.71 an hour. http://www.raisetheminimumwage.com/facts/

And if states push it higher - or cities set living wage standards higher - based on local conditions, that's ok by me.

Minimum wage workers tend to be young. Although workers under age 25 represented only about one-fifth of hourly-paid workers, they made up about half of those paid the Federal minimum wage or less.
