Mine was great after hurricane Wilma. Freeze dried foods have come a long way!

Like I said, it depends on the circumstances. I was 250 miles from the gulf when Ivan hit, and we were without power for days. The roads were blocked for most folks for at least 24 hrs. There was not a store with electricity within 50 miles.

If you want to rely on being able to go to Publix after (or during) any disaster, then you don't need a Bug-Out bag. But many of us like having one ready, just in case.

Even if i had one i'd be hesitant to admit to it. What a god awful name.

It is at times like this i give thanks i was born in a country that, for all its dental flaws, is devoid of major natural disasters.

I need a few days supply of water, food, meds or whatever to help my self and my neighbors if the big one comes.

Well, since you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Trying to "prepare" the day before is pointless. That is when shit starts running out. And it definitely isn't being prepared. I have gallons of gas "just in case" and I rotate them so they don't go bad. I have water. I have cash. I of course have weapons, ammunition and food.

Now you may consider it silly. You may consider it "fear". Fear isn't necessarily a bad thing and neither is being prepared for the unexpected. Again, one needs only look toward Katrina and the poor slobs at the Superdome and the Convention Center begging like pathetic waifs for the gobblement to come save them. If you want that to be you fine. Not me.

also, maybe you weren't really paying attention last year, but several of your fellow liberals here said they would happily invade and kill people in their homes who refused to share their stockpiled foodstuffs. that alone is reason to bug out with several bags.

As I have said, it depends on your circumstances. I have lived places where the neighbors would band together and I have lived places I would not want to stay during a disaster.

1, The geographical underwater features surrounding Florida do not allow for the possibility of Tsunamis.
2, a) What country is going to invade?
b) What country is going to successfully invade?
c) If a country somehow successfully invades, do you really believe they are coming to my house? No, they will want the citizenry to go back to normal as quickly as possible.

Ive been through 6 hurricanes, and prepared for many more that did not materialize. Living in Florida most of my life that happens. Not once have I had the need for a pre-set up Bug out Bag. I've never had trouble preparing the day before. I actually enjoy the community feel that develops when a hurricane is approaching.

After Wilma we had no power for 8 days, I drove about 65 miles south to find a grocery store with power, but I did not need to as I had food at home and stores without power were open selling canned goods. One night my wife and I got fed up with the lack of power and drove to Ft. Lauderdale went out to a nice restaurant, relaxed in a coffee shop and then returned home to the hurricane zone. It was not some survival test.

Florida is not susceptible to large tsunami's, the Grand Bahama Bank protects us. Also I live on top of one of South Florida's very few large hills.

If a band of terrorists invade South Florida, having a can opener hidden in my closet aint going to be of any real help.
