Bachman quitting in 2014

Trent didn't say those things? Strom didn't run on that platform? Nixon didn't really have a southern strategy? The south didn't used to be solid blue and now red? Blacks didn't used to vote GOP and now don't?

"essence of the democratic party"???

You racist southerners crack me up. Now I fully realize that your kinfolk fought for the union...

My kinfolk didn't arrive on these shores, from Germany, until 1865. Later the Scots-Irish, and descendants of the mighty Normans, emigrated. The Civil War was over.

You still fail to understand the actual history of The South, especially how it relates to my adopted home state. It was solid Democrat in a minority elite only, controlled by wealthy land owners of English descent in the eastern regions where rich bottom land plantations made lots of money exploiting blacks as slaves.

The Piedmont and Mountain counties, of which I make my home, was relatively poor, and of course filled with immigrants from Germany, Scotland, and Ireland. "My" folks didn't own slaves. Many of us resisted the Confederacy by spying, out-right Union support, and development of the Underground Railroad. Many historians believe the Union could not have won the war without us.

It is your beloved Democrat Party that has its roots deeply into the institutions of slavery and racism, not the GOP.

And as I explained, and as you cannot refute, the democratic party has abandoned its racist roots, and the GOP has successfully picked up that banner, and those voters. You know it. I know it... And, most importantly, blacks know it.

ITs 100% true, just look at the voters. Alabama switched from 100% Democrat to 100% Republican over the issue of desegregation.

No, the Democrat Party simply switched tactics. The GOP kicked their butts at all-out war, so they tried terrorism. The GOP jailed the bastards, so the Democrats institutionalized racism. The GOP enacted Civil Rights legislation and Affirmative Action, so the Democrat Party changed tactics again.

It's human nature to support someone who gives you free stuff. It's also human nature to slack off when your basic needs are provided for. The Democrat Party has exploited these human traits and focused them on blacks; this strategy has been much more successful than their past initiatives (slavery, segregation, terrorism) at destroying black families.

The Democrat Party's strategy works with any special interest group, be it gays, illegals, blacks, unions, corporations, etc. Give a group special privileges and individuals in that group will overwhelmingly support you.

Your 6th Grade History class.
I'm still learning history. Apparently that's where your history education stopped and that's why you think they way that you do. Now that you're supposedly an adult, re-read up your old 6th grade text and question it.

Here's a clue: it's ludicrous to suggest that a group of people used to thinking one way will suddenly switch to the opposing party over one issue, especially when its supposedly a code-word like "southern strategy" or "states rights". The South turned to the GOP gradually because the folks who used to be poor and powerless found a voice as their economy improved. That, and the huge immigration of people from the North who got tired of northeast liberalism.

Nice spin. And you wonder why blacks aren't coming back to the GOP?

That's just dumb, the same people who were opposed to desegregation switched parties when Johnson forced the issue. These are the children and grandchildren of those who supported succession from the union. Its in the culture and has not changed simply because they switched to the Republican party. Alabama has not faced any large influx of people moving in from the NE, sorry... you lose that one also.

Jarod...you're talking to a brick wall. He doesn't have the intelligence to realize he's full of shit.

Johnson was a racist; we have quotes from him. Why would racists move away from Johnson to the party that sponsored the Civil Rights legislation?

Alabama, along with the rest of the South, has gained in population tremendously since the 1960's while the Northeast has lost, relatively. Just look at the change in congressional seats.

Bachmann is beyond nuts. I am very thankful that she won't be returning... hopefully this means she isn't going to run for President, though.

Wow. Denial ain't no river in Egypt... There are direct quotes on the public record from Nixon campaign folks discussing the southern strategy... But, if I were a racist living on Tobacco Road trying to act all urbane and cosmopolitan, I'd probably want to disguise that trait as well.
