Fact

Great idea and one that's worked. Now. Where's the money coming from? Are you ok with a government stimulus to do it with increased taxes?

I think what I said was clear as could be. I suggest incentives for businesses to invest in inner cities. I also suggest organizing community groups to work with the businesses. There is a huge pool of able people who want to improve their lives. The outside expertise and finances of businesses with the creativity, drive and spirit of inner city communities taking back their neighborhoods and creating their own ftutures is an excellent match.

do it with DECREASED taxes.....zero taxes on businesses operated within designated zones....

Businesses always want some kind of tax incentive, so that's not a viable option. Infrastructures need improvement, buildings need improvement...it's going to take some kind of revenue over and above to pay for those. Tax them now and give them a tax rebate in thirty years after the redevelopment is successful.

Once again....apparently some people have issues with reading comprehension. It seems like some of you stopped at the word "force". I did mentions tax incentives and using a carrot instead of a stick.

I think that same method should apply to off shoring businesses too. Throw some tax incentives at them and see if they move operations back home. If that doesn't work, which I don't think it will, it will expose the lie that the reason they moved the jobs in the first place was because of taxes. Then....if they choose not to take the carrot, the stick comes out. China's tariffs on our goods coming in is 25%. We only charge 2.5%. Perhaps reciprocation would be appropriate.

So....criticism noted.

Who said they move purely because of taxes? Or primarily because of taxes? Labor costs are a driving force, transportation costs of goods can be another...

That's the schpiel that Conservatives have been giving since it started affecting our standard of living....corporate taxes are too high(which isn't true...the effective tax rate is about 7-12%...and some like GE pay nothing)

Transportation? You gotta explain that one to me. Tell me how much cheaper it is to bring stuff over here via cargo ship from China, and still have to distribute it across America than to just have the distribution costs alone.

Labor costs is really the ONLY factor. I think it's time for an all out trade war with China. Our trade deficit stands at almost $1T/ year. They purposely devalue their currency so that it's impossible to compete, and they charge 10X the tariff that we do on theirs.

We are letting China destroy our country without even firing a shot...so that a handful of greedy bastards can make money hand over fist.

are you doing your part by refusing to buy things NOT made in America?

Corporations don't pay taxes. Whatever they are taxed they pass on to their customers. The people pay the taxes collected from the corporations.

No, it is ONE of the reasons they give.

I am referring to jobs transferred overseas to develop products that are going to be used in Europe, China, India etc... It is cheaper to have the factories there rather than here. It is the same reason Toyota makes vehicles in the US.

This is not true for ALL products mind you, but it is a consideration. The goods that are manufactured in China etc... but sold here in the US are done because the cost savings in Labor and/or taxes more than offsets the increased costs of transportation.

No, it is not the only real factor. A trade war is blatantly stupid. Our trade deficit is high because we consume more on average than most countries. That said, I do agree that we need to get fairer trade agreements with China. That said, a trade war or tariff war is detrimental to everyone.

We are letting China destroy our country without even firing a shot...so that a handful of greedy bastards can make money hand over fist.

The US has no room to call any other country 'greedy bastards'. None. Period.

that said, I would like to know how China is destroying our country in your opinion...

The US corporations are the ones I was referring to....but, the Chinese have their share too.

Did you know, for instance....let's pretend you develop a widget that no one has seen before and is highly useful. You want to save on labor costs to produce your widget so you go to China and meet up with whoever the Chicom party head is in charge of manufacturing....that he will require that you turn over all intellectual property concerning your widget? That way THEY can produce it on their own in a different factory for their domestic use? And you have to agree to that before they'll let you set up shop.

It's making a deal with the devil so you can be short term greedy instead of long term greedy. This is why my blood boils when I hear suggestions of developing renewable energy sources and letting the Chinese build them.

Read Ratigan's book. You'll learn a lot.

No, its called running a business. The entire point of a business is to make a profit. Taxes are considered a cost of doing business.

Bullshit. You can make a profit in America without screwing your workers or the consumer. It's called being patient. The problem is everyone wants instant gratification. They want their mansion on the hill and their Porsche NOW.

And that's the Greedy Bastard syndrome... short term greedy....it's what fucked us in 2008 with Wall Street, it's what fucked us(and still is) with the offshoring of jobs, it's what's fucking us in health care, education, energy and our political system.

We have to start thinking differently....not the same old same old. Or we are going to crash hard.

Jeez, kinda went off the deepend there, didn't you?

Taxes are considered a cost of doing business. If this pisses you off I am sorry. But it is a fact. And that has absolutely nothing to do with screwing your workers or your customers.

If the cost of the raw materials you use goes up, you raise your prices accordingly. If the cost of your utilities jump up, you raise your prices accordingly. If the cost of your taxes goes up, you do the same thing.

So...theoretically... if a company refuses to "take a little less off the top" to cover those cost increases and add it to the bottom (price of their product and low end wages).. they could drive their business right into the ground and play the "it's not my fault, it's gubmint's" card?

No, what would happen is that the shareholders would see smaller profit margins and replace the people in charge with people who understand that taxes are a cost of doing business, just like the raw materials, salaries, utility bills, insurance ect ect ect.

this is the inevitable result of wanting a government, one susceptible to corruption because there's no accountability from them, to run your economy in every way, shape, and form thinking they will do such to benefit YOU.

Well...then the shareholders need to be more patient too...or if they want bigger returns, then they'll have to invest in riskier ventures. It's gotten too top heavy and if you're honest with yourself, you know it.

No...this is the inevitable result of looking around and seeing how the unholy alliance between Corporatism AND government is crumbling our country.
