if the government wanted to discar us, certainly.like with cars?

the mere fact that it CAN happen shows why we should NEVER allow it.That may be true. That does not mean it always will.
after all i've posted, you really need to ask that? Why do you think you need to be protected from the state? Are you suspicious of the US only or would any nation fall under this?
Why wouldn't you?
Are you implying that the state acts only for the good of all?
What do you think all the other Amendments (the first ten anyways) are about? Every nation would apply. The inherent nature of government is to grow and increase its power at the expense of the rights of the citizenry.

that collection of bumbling idiots has a militarized police force with armored vehicles, automatic weapons, and near total immunity from the laws it enforces. the only way you could NOT fear that is to be totally ignorant of that fact.Because I tend to look at the state as being a collection of bumbling idiots rather than a power to be feared.
And you want to have that collection of 'bumbling idiots' to have a monopoly on force, and no recourse for improper use of said force?Because I tend to look at the state as being a collection of bumbling idiots rather than a power to be feared.

again, with all that i've posted, you doubt that we live in a dictatorship/police state? do you need all the stats and examples again? or are you, like most of the other statists here, never going to believe we're anything but a free democratic society until they start checking IDs on street corners? you know they are doing just that in Boston right now, didn't you?I'd certainly be fearful of the above if we were living in a dictatorship.

It's all in one's perspective. You and STY apparently believe something big and nasty from the state is going to happen and it's just a question of when; I believe there's not a snowball's chance of anything happening at all.
The difference if you want to deprive us in the eventuality that it does. We just want to be left alone.

Show me in the Manchin/Toomey amendment where there were provisions for registration.
If this is seriously the way you and Billy think, I'm afraid there's nowhere on earth you'd both feel safe.
How would it work otherwise? The honor system? I'd just back date all bills of sale.
The way I understand it, the amendment has specific verbiage that makes a National Registry illegal.
Ok, then again, how would it work? I've offered several compromises that were more than fair, no one (other than Rana) seems to think they're compromises though.
Must've been before my time....I'm new here...care to give me a basic recap?
Open the NICS to non-FFLs. Or, when getting your DL or state ID, you get a background check there and get a stamp on your license. If you have your rights revoked, you get your license changed. Nice and simple.
