It is not a question of loving the state or hating the sate, it is a question of how to make your very violent society safer and a better place to live. You are already killing more of your own people than any other comparable society so it's not as if you have a lot to lose.
My proposal would be temporary, say two years and at the same time gun manufacturers and retailers would have their activities curtailed to supply only to recognised agencies, the armed services, police etc. It would not be perfect and people would still hide guns and steal guns and smuggle guns, but if you could reduce your over 300 million firearms to say 50 million in year one and ten million in year two people might realise that the killing just has to stop.
Or you could just carry on killing each other.
I would also outlaw the NRA and place its organisers under restricted movement orders.
Within five years there would be less need for gun laws and without their phallic symbol in their pockets Americans might rid themselves of the violent mindset that is so evident today. They could concentrate then on acquiring a culture without the brain-dead cat calls that label the arts as 'gay'.
In ten years Americans might stop shouting too. Now that WOULD be an achievement.
