Size of Government: Your Thoughts (Or Lack Thereof...)

The Federal government should be:

I have come to realize that I am not for small government. I don't even know what "small government" means. Can anyone explain it?

I am, however, for leaner/smarter government. Example: right now we spend around $3.5 trillion/year. I'd like to see that reduced to 21% of GDP (around $3.1 trillion) and then limit budget growth according to economic growth.

Leaner/smarter government is an oxymoron. Kinda like being "fiscally conservative and socially liberal". The two cannot coexist

But lets play your game. Since the most recent GDP shows the economy contracting using your standard spending should get cut.

Well there are several unnecessary cabinet positions and executive agencies, Congressional staffs are way too big, the DoD can drop about 1/3 of itself....

So yeah it's way too fuckin huge.

sure they can. when one doesn't limit themselves to pre-programmed lemming status of liberal/conservative, fiscally conservative and socially liberal get along quite well. free your mind, man, free your mind.

'Legalize drugs'

1) what drugs?
2) what practical reason?

---

Id support a smaller government. When I say that I mean many things I suppose. but mostly I mean keeping charity a private affair. Things like SS have been pumped full of steroids and forced to undergo not only years of periodic raiding but an expansion to cover common ailments that are incredibly expensive. Free healthcare is great until were all poor from the burden of covering Sloppy Sally's dental work, bed bug infestation, throat cancer, and counciling for her alphabet diagnosis, and batiatric associated problems.

????

I can't support drug legalization and lower taxes?

Unfortunately, this is one thing I agree with Alias about.
Yes, you can support legalization and lower taxes but being fiscally conservative does not allow for needed socially liberal actions.

Easy for you to talk about, since in your fantasy awareness of yourself, you don't think you are conservative.

My option is not one of the choices, I want the Government much bigger in some areas and much smaller in others. Its not the size that is an issue its the pholosophy and the method. Government can be good, and government can be bad.

is thinking that the constitution doesn't provide the federal government power to regulate a weed a conservative viewpoint?
is pro choice a conservative viewpoint?
is it a conservative viewpoint to be highly critical of police crackdowns violating the 1st Amendment?
is it a conservative viewpoint to be highly critical of police crackdowns violating the 4th Amendment?
is being anti PATRIOT ACT a conservative viewpoint?

other than being extremely fiscally conservative, maybe you could point out to me how i'm a conservative?

You support Citizens United.

Until you see the heinous nature of this ruling, I will consider you a conservative supporter.

wow, once again for the learning impaired (you) I do not support CU, I simply don't see it as the devastating issue that you do. If that is what you consider a dead stop for conservatism, then you are beyond help.

Then you don't understand what fiscally conservative actually means. For the above is complete nonsense.

Ignorance is not an endearing quality. Note I said ignorance, not stupidity. Ignorance has a cure. Do some research.

:palm: always with you. I asked a question for a reason. A guy like you (who for once seemed to have a goal in mind when you started) could have as easily provided links or evidence. You think/expect others to provide for you, and thats what irks me about you. I don't bother you cuz I don't agree with you. I bother you because you provide very little to substantiate your idea(l)s. No personal ethic. And why 4 posts? I put in two because my mobile device was not letting me edit my post. Can you provide a reason why you needed 4 to say what could be in one? You're not the only one here, I've noticed. . .

In summation, no, I will not google it or reseach why other people than yourself have said this thing I ask of you. I will not respond to those posts out there because they are not your (not that I asked you) opinion. This 'google is your friend' bit is a cop out, a scapegoat, a reason to laze about and feel superior without working for it. Perhaps one day we'll move beyond this.
