Yahoo steps back into the dark ages w/ ban on telecommuting

What gives? They're about to lose talent, spend more in infrastructure & other costs, and demoralize their workforce.

What a bad plan. I had a much different impression of that CEO when she was hired, too.

I was going to start a thread about this. For the most part I have been hearing favorable coverage from the media about her decision.

Now if it were a man making this decision the outcry would be huge

Some spin I heard this morning is that it is mostly men who take advantage of these flexible working arrangements and that she should be given a little slack because she is trying to "save" the company.

All in all I would say that political correctness will limit any criticism she gets

Male CEOs have it so damn tough. How do they manage?

And it's just genuinley weird that the spin that you heard is that mostly men who take advantage of these felxible arrangement as though she's targeting men. Do you hang out on, like, paternal rights message boards or something?

That's laughable. She is getting absolutely hammered for this decision - especially from advocates of working mothers. The decision has been met w/ almost universal criticism and derision.

I've been reading about it all day, on a wide variety of sites. The only praise she has gotten is from Trump.

This story has gotten a lot of coverage locally with Yahoo being a Bay Area company and all. The complaint I heard on the news last night was this policy would affect single moms the most who for obvious reasons like being able to work from home. As a company, Yahoo needs a few hail marys to come through to keep it relevent and back on a path towards growth.

I just read some of it. I found something she said about having children: "way more easy than everyone made it out to be."

LOL. Man I wouldn't want to be her on the mommy blogs! I bet traditional mothers really love that. There is a whole culture that is very much "being a mother is the most important job you'll ever have". And of course, Mitt Romney himself said it's the "hardest job in the world". Those guys crack me up.

However...I could really tear her apart from a class conscious view, but why bother with that here? It will just rile the monkeys.

Actually I was watching PMSNBC this morning. Don't remember the talking head.

And no it wasn't put forth as she is targeting men you dipshit. Just that it wouldn't be harming women.

Were you born a non thinking idiot. So you need everything explained to you?

Yeah why be honest when it might undermine you Feminazi's cause right?

What a disingenuous twat you are. Not that you had much credibility to begin with but.........

People quitting is easier than laying people off. That basic fact is part of what's driving this. Yahoo needs to get rid of people. The fact that this change in policy will be hard on people is a feature, not a bug. No one wants to be the person that lays off a single mother that really needs the job, but if she quits . . .

That definitely makes sense.

Do you think working from home is the way of the future? While reading about this I read that studies show people who work at home have higher productivity. I find that so hard to believe. The people who work here barely work in the office, I would love to see them working from home.

In the late '90's when I was a commercial real estate broker there was a lot of talk about telecommuting being the wave of the future and it was going to change companies needs for office space etc. Yes there are a fair number of people that work remotely but it has not been a game changer by any means.

Yeah that's what I think too.

Fewer distractions at home. No dipshit like you cruising by the desk asking "gotta minute"
