Not really. Most of US's major cities are in the NE Megalopolis, the Great Lakes Megalopolis, the California Megalopolis. There are only four major metropolitan (a metro area greater than 3 million) areas in the entire South. Atlanta, Miami, Houston and Dallas. And only 8 cities in the south in the 1 to 3 million range. Just the NE alone, an area far smaller than the south, has a greater population. The NE and Great Lakes megalopolis, of comprable geographic size as the south, account for over 100 million of the US population where as the entire south only accounts for little more than half that population. Add in the California Megalopils and that's half the population so it stands to reason that half or more of the cities on this list would be in those region. Most major Cities have large areas of the cities that are shitholes.
