Freedom is a scary thing for some people. Letting people choose activity that may endanger them is something that is inherently "wrong" in the eyes of some people. Even if it was reality that some particular activity was something that is inherently dangerous there is nothing at all in our culture that makes it so we should stop them so long as they choose to participate with open eyes.

I am sure that they are nice people all the same. There are lots of nice people who act in despicable ways. I hear tell that Stalin, Mao and Hitler were nice people.

The other problem with the abnormal behavior of gays is that they take resources that could be used in better ways. Look at all of the healthcare resources that have been wasted on the gays because of their tragic immoral choices. It is shameful. But, what are you gonna do?

The truth is that the most extreme conservatives supported quarantining aids patients and even wanted to use it as an excuse to crackdown on homosexuality in the way ila pretends to sarcastically support. Also, one should remember that this was before the Lawrence vs Texas ruling and homosexuality was still illegal in many states. The climate that civil libertarians were up against was much different than today's and the hate filled bigots will obscure the facts of that.
