The Violence Against Women Act

the VAWA is a bill the has a history of controversay and even questionable constitutional standing. The ACLU was even against it a long while ago for certain provisions (though I think they have changed their stance since that point after certain things were removed). I haven't kept up to date on specific things in it though.

Here's a great site that explains some of what the VAWA does.

As far as arguing with men here about this, I wouldn't bother myself. They always have an excuse for why Republican anti-woman policies aren't really anti-woman. And as we know, there is no war on women.

It doesn't matter. They keep losing women and are determined to continue pursuing the same anti-woman policies and mansplaining to the dumb bitches why these polices aren't really anti-women. How has this worked for them so far? Yeah. And it's gonna get worse. I encourage them to keep it up. Good work fellas!

Rubio added that he was concerned with a provision that would grant tribal courts jurisdiction to prosecute crimes against non-Native Americans on tribal lands – which several other Republicans have said could raise constitutional problems.

yeah that's bullshit. So If I do something on tribal land I have to go to teepee court? Fuck that shit.

This is the type of stuff these bills always do...you start off with something good that makes sense but then they put these ridiculous provisions in ad people freak the fuck out that there could be any opposition, as if 22 senators just enjoy violence being practiced on women or something.. I mean come on...

This pertains to men raping Indian women on reservations. It's one of the best parts of the act. Especially considering the history of white male sexual violence towards minority women. No more free passes. Great news for anyone who cares about women, and not just about white women. That's me. I celebrate this. Nail the fuckers.

I know that this is the provision that most infuriates white males. Americans believe they are entitled. To whatever they want. This is why the idea of a world court enrages Americans. How dare anyone think that any member of our military should be subject to any law! If they are in Japan and they gang rape a 13 yo, we'll decide what to do about it, not the Japanese!

This is very similar.

It is an interesting reaction. But a very predictable one. In fact you know what? On second thought, I've lost interest already. Live with it. Done deal.

GAWD you're such an unpleasant person.
All you do is bitch and moan about anything and everything that has to do with men.
It's not every man's fault that your dad treated you like shit and abandoned you.
It's not every man's fault that your brothers treated you like a servant.
It's not every man's fault that you picked "dates" and were assaulted.
It's not every man's fault that the Police didn't believe your accusations, against your one night stands.
It's not every man's fault that men in your life, quickly realized that you're just a bitch.
It's not every man's fault that engage in internet sex and then get dumped.
It's not every man's fault that you think being a bitch, really means you have strong opinions; because, in your case you're just being a bitch.

Since it's not every man's fault; maybe you should concentrate on changing yourself, instead of everyone else.

And what's more; you continually portray women as being "helpless victims", when in fact they have as much protection under our laws as men do.
The VAWA contained a provision that is basically referring to “emotional distress".
How do you defend yourself against an accusation of "emotional distress"?

While the VAWA began to address specific issues, it goes to far when it automatically wants men to considered presumed guilty, instead of everyone being presumed innocent.
You and others like you, do more to hold women back; instead of helping them succeed.

I believe in the court system laid out in our constitution, and believe in the laws and the processes that which they are derived from. I don't like usurping the constitution and not having my day in an American court by a jury of my peers. I know that probably tears you up inside that I would like my constitutional liberties. Doesn't mean I hate women.

The ends don't justify the means.

When you step onto a tribal land, you are subject to their laws, just as if you went to France you'd be subject to theirs. You are free to stay off of their lands and stay out of France.

I love the provision and am happy it passed.

First you are making this personal and it's totally unneccesary

and also way to blame someone for being assaulted as if it were there fault?

If a women gets assaulted by a guy, it's the guy's fault, not the women's.

Tribal lands are not a sovereign nation the same way france is. Same thing with the amish, they still have to abide by U.S. law.

White man no want live by indain law, stay off of indian land.
Go gamble elsewhere and buy cheap cigerettes.

Idiots agreeed with rubio saying it too too much local control away and then complained about having to be prosecuted by indians in their Nations.

Who said they didn't have to abide by US laws?
