If you drive the police WILL throw your ass in jail; is textbook police state.
There's a BIG difference between WILL and CAN.
This isn't Colorado. I was asking Yurt. I have a local friend, he travels to your state every winter to run his snow plowing company.
The streets are so old and narrow here that anything over 6" turns into a nightmare for the city. No room for the snow.
They can't dump it into the harbor, it is considered hazardous waste (really).
He's probably going broke this year... Crappy snowfall.

It's not like the cops can enforce this very well. Crown Vics don't like snow too much.
The purpose of government is to protect peoples rights. And people have a right to be stupid. By not letting them drive in a blizzard you are depriving nature of a chance to remove morons from the gene pool.

The last time it snowed here our road didn't get plowed till the 3rd day after the snow stopped.
We are not set up for severe snow storms here, to say nothing of the coastal flooding.
Speaking of which, it is getting pretty bad. The lights are flickering. Once we lose power it will take at least a few days to restore, if not longer. During the ice storms last winter, many Mass homes lost power for up to two weeks. Things are slamming against the side and roof of the house. Likely branches coming off trees. The wind is howling and we are still two hours shy of the peak wind.
I may be able to post from my phone, but not from here, not good enough service.
