The Earth has been getting warmer

The Earth has been getting warmer -- but how much of that heat is due to greenhouse gas emissions and how much is due to natural causes?

A leaked report by a United Nations’ group dedicated to climate studies says that heat from the sun may play a larger role than previously thought.

“[Results] do suggest the possibility of a much larger impact of solar variations on the stratosphere than previously thought, and some studies have suggested that this may lead to significant regional impacts on climate,” reads a draft copy of a major, upcoming report from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

"heat from the sun may play a larger role than previously thought".....its plain fact.

I was labeled a 'denier' 5 or 6 years ago and claimed then the sun was the major climate controller of the earth and the entire solar system....

I don't know how anyone could be suckered in to ride the AlGore bullshit train and be convinced to think differently.

correct

Poor ShyGuy still thinks the "weatherman" on the news controls the weather and blames him for bad weather....

Poor SG

Oh well, I remember my 5 year old did that too, until he was 5 1/2....

you don't think man contributes anything to the global climate?

Man's contribution is insignificant. The most predominate "greenhouse gas" is water vapor, and there is not a thing we can do about that. In fact, the greenhouse effect is what enables life to flourish on our planet, without it, we wouldn't be here. Carbon dioxide is one of the most common elements in the universe, carbon is the basis for all living things. Trees and plant life process CO2 into oxygen, and botanists say that our plants and trees were actually starving for CO2 until the past few hundred years.

As environmental concerns go, carbon dioxide emissions are the least of our problems. Toxic waste disposal in third world developing countries, polluting their water supplies, is a FAR FAR worse problem.

man's contribution is not significant , but that doesn't mean we don't contribute. think of all the rain forests, over fishing etc....and think of large cities and how they affect weather. i don't believe man is responsible for so called global warming or cooling, however, we do have responsibility for the climate and ecology of our planet.

What am I supposed to do while thinking of the rain forest, play my Toto CD? Over fishing? we've been doing that for nearly 200 years, it doesn't effect the climate. Neither do large cities. In fact, there is very little man can do about the climate. We are pretty much at the climate's mercy, if it wants to get extremely cold or hot, or rain a lot or a little, we can't do anything to prevent that. If the climate decides to throw hurricanes at us, we have to deal with that. If the climate decides to spin up some tornadoes, you best run for shelter, because you can't do anything to prevent this. I know this is hard for liberals to grasp, that their beloved government can't control the climate, but that is just a reality we have to face.

Now, "Ecology" to me, that's a completely different animal, and has nothing to do with climate. Up until recently, I was a supporter of the EPA, and their initiatives to clean up our water and air. However, I can no longer support them, because Liberals have infiltrated and turned the agency into an advocate for "man-made global warming", classifying CO2 as a pollutant, etc. It's a real shame, because it seems for about a generation there, we were all on the same page, working together to clean up our mess... but Liberals can't stand for us to all be on the same page in harmony together, they can't muster up anything to protest and rail about, if we're all working together.

Fox news. Always trying to make a point on something that doesn't matter.

That's the same idiot's blog. That said, there's always a handful of scientists out there willing to shill lies for good money to FOX News, et al.

You are really not very bright Howie, you only seem able to parrot a few phrases that you've heard in blogs. How is one to take you seriously when you've never even heard of WUWT or Anthony Watts?

I can't believe that any thinking adult still believes in man made global warming.

A problem you appear to have is that you are only capable of what we might term 'binary' thought. It is not a question of yes or no, but of how much and how significant. Try not to be american for a moment.

Binary thought is the result of generations of information fed to americans by MadMen in 15 second sound bites. When selling beans it is an art form, when imparting information it is the propagation of ignorance.

I agree with you but on the one hand you people like ILA who are true deniers and people like Howie who will not countenance any other viewpoint, it is just like talking to a Scientologist. Neither is very well informed. Anthony Watts has it exactly right when he says: "Now I'm in the camp of we have some global warming. No doubt about it, but it may not be as bad as we originally thought because there are other contributing factors." The Met Office themselves recently said that there won't be any change in global mean temperatures until 2017 at least, which means that there will not have been any warming for twenty years.

I have said several times before and it bears repetition that the question of man made (or influenced) global warming is a moot point and steers people away from the main issue, the one issue that big oil and big business do not want prioritised; and that is we must look after this planet.
We must stop polluting, we must stop destroying the environment, we must stop treating endagered species as prizes and aphrodisiacs. Its easy in Europe and the States, you can live your whole lives in ignorance and 'not giving a shit-ness', but travel a bit (as you have) and you will see how we are screwing up the only place we have to live.
So if the planet is getting warmer or colder we need to find ways to survive that. If we can prove it one way or the other it will make little difference to the mayhem and destruction we are causing now.
No one's god is going to help and that is why the religion of these ignoramuses is dangerous.
