NAACP president: Black people worse off under Obama

NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous said Sunday, perhaps unwittingly, that black Americans “are doing far worse” than when President Obama first took office.

“The country’s back to pretty much where it was when this president started,” Mr. Jealous told MSNBC host David Gregory on “Meet the Press.” “White people in this country are doing a bit better. Black people are doing far worse.”

The black unemployment rate was 12.7 percent when Mr. Obama took office. While the unemployment rate in the U.S. as a whole is below 8 percent, the Labor Department reported the black jobless rate was up from 12.9 percent to 14 percent for December.

is he right and should we focus on skin color or all americans?

Also confirmed by Colin Powell in an interview with Bill O'Reilly.....and Mr. Powell had some other things
to say about his service in the UN and especially his infamous speech about Iraq.....

I feel completely vindicated for my defense of Pres. Bush...completely....

:rofl2:

And yet 99.9% of them voted for him again. They deserve all the misery that Obama has brought upon them and all that is to come.

Maybe he is just jealous?

Minorities are arrested in the drug wars (war on poor) rich people get community service if they are dumb enough to get caught.
Shockingly, Obama is too much a puss to face off with the ingrained jack booted thugs!

Black people worse off under Obama?

Absolutely we are.

Yet we have demanded nothing from this president.

He continues to talk down to us like he's talking to children .. and we continue to kiss his ass.

We don't deserve to be doing any better.

gee do you think black people have been worse off since the economy went into the shitter?

hells yeah

Now if Obama had been the one who CRASHED the economy you people may have point.

The problem with your little theory is Obama has improved the economy since taking office.

Pretending he has not is just closing your eyes to the facts

being the commander in chief, one would think that he could fire anyone he needed to, if fixing the system was his intent. aka 'fast and furious'.

Pretending he has not is just closing your eyes to the facts

With all due respect, pretending this isn't a real issue is closing your eyes to the facts.

Barack Obama and the paradox behind his African American support base
The ascent of the first black president has coincided with a steep descent in the economic fortunes of black Americans. But that hasn't impeded their outward optimism about Obama

African Americans, as a group, are far worse off now than they were when Obama came to power and the gap between whites and blacks in terms of wealth and income has increased under Obama's tenure. The overall rate of unemployment may be close to where it was when Obama took office, but black unemployment is up 11%. Meanwhile the wealth gap has doubled during this recession with the average white American now having 22 times more wealth than their black counterparts. So too has the educational achievement gap with the rate at which white Americans graduate from high school growing at a far faster clip than black students.

"We haven't seen much of the stimulus trickle down to our people here," Mark Allen, a Chicago-based community organiser who used to work alongside Obama, told the Washington Post. "I liked the community organiser Obama better than President Obama … Democrats say Barack has got 90% or whatever of the black vote wrapped up. What they don't tell you is it's 90% of those who actually come out and vote. What if it's 90% of just 30 or 40% who vote?"

It isn't just Jealous and the NAACP talking about it .. West, Smiley, and much of the black community are talking about it. You won't hear it from puppets like Al Sharpton, but it is indeed a topic of serious discussion as it should be.

Obama ignores black people and takes them for granted.

Obama ignores black people and takes them for granted.

First of all this is not a new phenomenon. Blacks have been blindly voting for democrats for decades now. Because Obama happens to be black does not obscure that.

Why shouldn't democrats take blacks for granted? Where are they going? They aren't allowed to leave the democrat plantation. People like Jealous, Sharpton and Jackson are there to keep them in place.

Blacks have been conditioned to vote straight democrat because the democrats have skeered them into believing that voting for a republican will bring back slavery. Hell, you hear lefties here say as much.

I don't see it getting better for blacks for a few reasons

1) as I said they have shown by their loyal voting patterns they aren't going anywhere so dems have no incentive to do anything substantive as long as they think their votes are locked up

2) Hispanics are the new minority flavor of the month and dems have their eyes on getting their hands down their political pants to feel them up

The only way blacks will change thier political fortunes is if during one Presidential election 13% or more of them vote for a republican. That would send shock waves through the democrat party.

But we all know that blacks would just as soon accept their lot in life than do anything different. It isn't a reflection of their race so all you race baiters unlight your tampon string. It is a function of human nature. They have been conditioned that this is as good as it can get for them and that whatever prosperity they feel comes directly from the benevolence of democrats.

It is no different than the struggles a battered woman goes through trying to leave a man who beats her. She knows doing something different would benefit her, but she hangs on hoping he will change and scared if she does anything it might get worse. So she accepts it.

the leader of the NAACP disagrees with you and he cites actual figures...you and facts...oil and water

He didn't say black people are worse off under Obama. He said that uenmployment is higher among black people than when Obama took office, which is quite a bit different.

No, he didn't say that (at least accorning to the transcript). And even if he did say that (though he didn't), in context it is clear that he was talking about unemployment (joblessness, to use his term), not a general state of being:

And right now when you look at joblessness in this country, you know, the country is back to pretty much where it was when this president started. White people in this country are doing a bit better. Black folks are doing a full point worse when to comes to-- and so with this president having said to us we need to invest in strategies to lift all boats, now that some boats are clearly more stuck, the question is will Congress join him in getting those boats unstuck too.

who said anything about a general state of being? so he said they are doing worse than when obama started, but he didn't really say that?

lol

Your thread title claims that Ben Jealous said black people are worse off under Obama and the first sentence in the article you linked to suggests the same thing. That's not what he said.
