Hasn't Obama already been inaugurated?

My daughter asked me this the other day, and it had never occurred to me. Why do we have inaugural ceremonies for re-elected presidents? They've already been inaugurated! Isn't it just another waste of taxpayer money on ceremony for ceremony sake?
 
officially the term comes to an end, and another term begins. congress swears in for each new term as well.

Definitely doesn't hurt to remind a president to look out for the constitution.

No duh? Is that why?

The TERM comes to end, but "inauguration" is what? The introduction of? The ceremonial indoctrination into office? I see nothing in "inauguration" which says it should pertain to someone who has already been inaugurated. Now perhaps it's a "reaffirmation" and perhaps that is what we could call it, and still have the same pomp and pageantry, but why do we see fit to inaugurate people who have already been inaugurated?

um...you're not very bright

dixie point is and he is right in a sense...obama never left office as he won a second term, thus he was not inducted into the office

Well, he WAS inducted into the office in 2008, when he won the first time. My point (not a mountain, just a point) is, why do we inaugurate people who have already been inaugurated? So far, the only real answer I've gotten is: Just because that's what we do! So what is the point of Obama being sworn in again? Did his first oath expire and no longer apply?

he is serving a different term. not sure it is required, more probable just tradition. reading the constitution is not really clear if a second term requires a new oath, however, it is clear that a term only lasts four years. so, if execution of office means starting a term, which i would argue it does, then, a second oath is required for him or her to execute his second term.

An "oath" is what? Giving your word of honor, that you intend to carry out the duties of the office, not the term. If you gave your word this was your intention in 2008, when inducted into office, why would being re-elected change that? I fully understand that we do it, and it's legal and justified by constitution or tradition, I am merely asking why we do this, from a "logic" perspective. Perhaps it's an anal-retentive point, but Obama was already "inaugurated" in January of 2008. He was inducted into the Office of the Presidency at this time, so what's with another such "inauguration" in 2012? If someone gets inducted into the Hall of Fame, do we invite them back each year to be re-inducted, have another party, give them another trophy, etc.?

See, here is the thing, as to why it's such a big deal and I felt compelled to point it out... We just spent $100 million on a ceremony that is redundant and frankly, illogical. How many homeless people could have been housed for 4 years with this money? How many sick poor people or kids could have been cared for? How many underprivileged students could this have provided a college tuition for? Instead, it's pissed away by a bunch of egotistical politicians as an excuse to throw a party. And for the record, I had the same problem with GWB wasting the money too.

And you just can't stand that it's a black man and his beautiful wife who in your minds should be picking cotton on a plantation. LOL. So it's your contention that we spent $100 million for the purpose of trash-talking the opposition? Of all the many great and wonderful things we could have done with that money, it was more important for your party to have a day of bashing and trashing your political opposition? Because, after all, it's more important to YOU that contempt be shown for your fellow man, and racism fomented at every opportunity, and those values trump actually doing anything your party campaigned on.
