Stop the Frankenfish attack

cancel2 2022

Canceled
The US is about to treat the world to the first genetically modified meat: a mutant salmon that could wipe out wild salmon populations and threaten human health - but we can stop it now before our plates are filled with suspicious Frankenfish.

The new fake salmon grows twice as fast as real salmon, and not even scientists know its long-term health effects. Yet it’s about to be declared safe for us to eat, based on studies paid for by the company that created the GMO creature! Luckily, the US is legally required to consider public opinion before deciding. A growing coalition of consumers, environmentalists, and fishermen is calling on the government to trash this fishy deal. Let's urgently build an avalanche of global support to help them win.

The consultation is happening right now and we have a real chance to keep mutant fish off the menu.

Sign to say NO to Frankenfish and share widely -- when we reach 1 million, our call will be officially submitted to the public consultation.

lol....its just a cross between three types of fish that already exist......its not like its some alien creature that's going to eat your face.....

AquAdvantage salmon is Atlantic salmon engineered with a gene from chinook salmon. The gene carries instruction for making growth hormone; that gene is attached to -- and activated by -- a piece of DNA from an ocean pout. The hybrid DNA was microinjected into fertilized salmon eggs back in 1989, to create the first “founder” GM fish. Because of the growth hormone supplied by the added gene, the salmon reaches smolt stage in its lifestyle faster than other Atlantic salmon. (Smolt is the stage when the salmon becomes silvery and would be ready to migrate to the ocean.) Faster growth time to smolt cuts down on feed costs and time to market and thus would make land-based salmon farming more economical, says AquaBounty Technologies, makers of the GM salmon. The FDA notes that 99% of the Atlantic salmon we eat in this country comes from farmed salmon operations in Canada Chile, Norway and Scotland.

does it taste good?......

by the way, this is not the first genetically modified meat.........back in the 50s a type of hog was developed called a Farmer's Hybrid, that contained the selective traits of nine different breeds.....

That is not really genetic modification just selective breeding, something which has been going on since the Dutch got tulip bulbs from Turkey. Genetic engineering is when you take genes from other species like an eel-like fish called an ocean pout in the case of this salmon. The main point is that it is the start of a very slippery slope (pun intended) and I would have thought that you would be dead agin it!! Wait a few years down the line and see what horrors are lying in wait. You try putting the genie in the bottle once all this really gets going. I wonder if you would be so happy if they start doing the same thing with humans? Maybe a few chimp genes or orangutan?

This is an Ocean Pout, by the way. Do you think that they look very salmon-like?? What does the Old Testament have to say about it?

I think the anti GMO are freaking out for no reason. The keep making wild impossible statements about it. this is real science. Not the comic books nonsense. Its still a salmon, and is safe to eat.

You surprise me I thought that you of all people would be agin it, as they say in Yorkshire: "There's nowt so queer as folk" So where do you draw the line would you be happy with fish with snail genes or even human genes??

genetic modification is nothing more than single generation selective breeding......they aren't modifying a salmon to act like a fire breathing dragon and they aren't turning butterflies into Mothra.....
I would have thought that you would be dead agin it!!
why.....I grew up on a farm.....hybridization is a minor fact of life.....

see what horrors are lying in wait.

I don't know, what do YOU think the OT says about it?.......

So you don't know what the OT, on which you claim to be an expert, has to say about trying to create new live forms that could never be formed naturally?

I cannot be held responsible for interpretations you may have carried INTO the OT......as for whether the same results could have been formed naturally, I suspect, given the possibility of thousands of generations of intentional hybridization the same result could have been brought about....I've been given to understand that secularists like that type of "given an infinite number of planets" argument.......I can't imagine you would object to its application here......

Yet I would lay down good money that you are steadfastly against stem cell research, am I right?

The truly frightening thing about this is the question of who will control what we put on our plates. Monsanto et al exist for profit. Nothing else. Their aim is to be the only supplier of food to the planet. They will rule if they are not stopped. It is a control issue, not a food safety issue.
