Globally speaking, probably a majority of Muslims are fine people. But polls taken in various Islamic nations do show very little tolerance for non-Muslims and alternative lifestyles, e.g. widespread support for stoning apostates, gays, and adulterers, as well as harsh treatment toward women.

In the end, though, I guess you care more about shielding your religion from criticism than advancing women's rights around the world. What a shame.

You have zero proof that one of the rapists is Muslim. Gossip from a right-wing rag does not constitute proof. And, my religion isn't Islam, it's Catholicism.

You have a lot of growing up to do when it comes to learning, critical thinking and tolerance.

Stuebenville is probably the most corrupt small town in the Country. Hell their police department was put on probation by the Justice Department because of internal corruption.

I believe the rapes are real but the justification for doing so (conversion) is bogus. Are men raped in order to forcibly convert them?

I believe it's just an excuse. The Qur'an doesn't say anything about raping women to convert them. It's a perversion of the teachings.

I don't think that the rapes had anything to do with the conversions either, I am sure it was mostly about humiliation and subjugation.

The names of the suspects are Ram Singh, Mukesh Singh, Vijay Sharma, Akshay Thakur and Pawan Gupta. Those names are not Muslim; Sharma and Thakur are Brahmin or similar high caste surnames, Singh is mostly used by Sikhs, Gupta can be used by Hindis and Jains.

I see that there is a sixth accused, who is 17, and is to be tried in a separate court for juveniles. I don't think his name has been released although I find it hard to believe that Muslims and Hindis go around together in a gang.

None of those are muslim names. Most of the names are Hindi names, like Thakur and Gupta. "Singh", however, is a Sikh name historically, also indicating a lower caste (although theoretically Sikh's no longer have a class system). Sharma is the name of primarily by Brahmins, usually highly creative ones.

Interestingly enough, many Indian surnames reflect their level in the caste system and occupation. Another recent (in the past few decades) there's been incidents of lower-caste Indians taking on the names of higher-caste Indians to reflect themselves are more worthy of respect.

(Side note: My "adopted" family is a Hindi family, who've taught me over the years the intricacies of their culture. It's an incredible learning experience!
